Nay Paces No. 7 EOU Volleyball Past Multnomah, 3-1

PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 7 EOU volleyball team capped its trip to Portland, Ore., with a four-set (25-13, 23-25, 25-11, 25-15) triumph over a Multnomah squad that gave the Blue and Gold everything it could handle on Friday night.

Junior middle hitter Emily Nay shouldered the load offensively, tallying a team-high 12 kills and two block assists. Senior swatter Kasaundra Tuma posted nine kills, while seniors Makayla Lindburg and Sierra Linke chipped in seven kills apiece.

Senior setter Rachelle Chamberlain directed EOU's offense, booking a double-double with 41 assists and 11 digs. Defensively, sophomore libero Holli Mullins and junior defensive specialist Malia Mills collected 17 and 14 digs, respectively.

In set one, EOU (23-2, 16-1 CCC) closed with a 14-4 run to seal a 25-13 victory. With an 11-9 advantage, Linke and Tuma combined for six kills to launch a 13-2 burst to muster set point (24-11), and then Nay ultimately closed the set with a kill to shut the Lions down.

The second set saw Multnomah (9-14, 3-12 CCC) take an early four-point (9-5) lead, and with the set tied at 21 all, the Lions tallied three straight to reach set point. Two mishaps by the home team helped EOU stay in it (24-23), but the Mountaineers responded with a hiccup of their own to yield the first frame to Multnomah in program history.

EOU wasted no time jumping to a big lead in the third set, as Tuma hammered one down to put the Mountaineers up eight (14-6). Two-straight block assists by Nay extended the advantage to 12 (22-10), and points by Nay, Tuma, and freshman outside hitter Megan Bunn ultimately clinched the frame for EOU.

Trailing by one (5-4) in the fourth set, EOU launched a 17-5 run capped by a Nay kill to go up by 11 (21-10). The Lions responded with four straight, but Nay connected with two kills, and then a Lion attack error and Bunn kill propelled the Mountaineers to their 23rd win of the season.
