No. 6 EOU Volleyball Rolls Past Southern Oregon in Ashland, 3-0

ASHLAND, Ore. – EOU head volleyball coach Kaki McLean Morehead earned her first sweep over Southern Oregon in Ashland, and the sixth-ranked EOU volleyball team remained perfect in conference play with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-13) triumph over the Raiders on Saturday night.
 
As a team, EOU outhit Southern Oregon, .388-.119, and the Blue and Gold posted 10 total blocks.
 
Once again, junior outside hitter Amanda Miller led the way with a match-high 16 kills, while senior middle hitter Kasaundra Tuma added nine kills. Senior setter Rachelle Chamberlain earned match-high honors with 40 assists, and junior swatter Isabelle Statkus booked seven kills and three blocks (one solo).
 
Junior hitter Madisen Garlie paced EOU's blocking efforts with six rejections (two solo), while sophomore libero Holli Mullins directed the back row with 19 digs.
 
Tied at seven apiece in the opening set, EOU strung together a 6-1 run to go up, 13-8, and force a Raider timeout. After the Mountaineers stretched their lead to six on multiple occasions, Southern Oregon clawed its way back to make it a two-point (22-20) contest. Miller and Statkus put down kills to lift EOU to set point (24-20), and Garlie ultimately delivered a kill to notch the frame, 25-21. 
 
The second set saw the Blue and Gold (17-1, 10-0 CCC) close with a 9-1 run, as freshman hitter Megan Bunn compiled three kills amidst the spurt to push the Mountaineers ahead by two frames. 
 
Set three featured eight early ties before EOU mustered a 6-1 burst to take a 15-10 lead after a block assist by Garlie and Statkus. After the Raiders (9-9, 6-5 CCC) cut the margin to four (16-12), Bunn netted a kill to launch another 9-1 flurry to close the stanza, and the Mountaineers cashed in their 17th-straight victory.

16 – Kills by Miller. She's posted double-figure kills in each of the last eight matches.
.383 – EOU's overall hitting percentage. The Mountaineers have hit .340 or better on nine occasions this season.
