De'Sean Mattox scored 33 points, but it was not enough as the Eastern Oregon's second half rally fell short as the then-No. 5 College of Idaho Yotes defeated EOU, 94-75, at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center. The Mountaineers trimmed the Yotes lead down to one point late in the second half but could not overcome the deficit. Mattox was 9-of-16 shooting and 5-of-10 from behind the arc.
Case Rada followed with 18 points to round out the double-figure scorers for EOU.
Scouting the YotesThe Yotes of College of Idaho enter this game with a record of 21-4 overall and 10-3 in conference action this season. They had their eight game winning streak snapped on Jan. 31 when they were defeated by the Knights of Warner Pacific, 81-62. The 62 points scored by College of Idaho in the game is a season-low. On the season, College of Idaho is averaging 80.3 points per game and led by Demetrius Perkins' 13.3 points per game. The Yotes have five players averaging double-figures on the season. College of Idaho is 6-4 on the road this season.
Leading the WayBryan McGriff is leading the Mountaineers in scoring this season. He is averaging 21.0 points per game, which is the 13th most in the nation. McGriff has scored 20 or more points in 14 games this season. He as a season-high 34 points against Northwest University on Dec. 6.
Last Home GamesThe 2014-15 EOU men's basketball regular season is coming to an end and next weekend Feb. 13-14 are the last home games of the regular season for the Mountaineers.
Block ShotsFriday's game will feature two of the best shot blocking teams in the NAIA. Eastern Oregon ranks first in total blocks with 131 and first in blocks per game as they average 5.7 blocks per game. College of Idaho enters this game second in total blocks 128 and third in blocks per game as they average 5.1 blocks per game. Kalvin Johanson who has blocked 57 shots this year, which ranks him fifth in the NAIA.
Shooting the ThreeLast weekend, the Mountaineers struggled to shoot the 3-point shot. On Friday, EOU shot 2-for-19 from behind the arc. The two makes are a season low for the Mountaineers. The next night EOU was 6-of-25 for 24 percent. On the season, EOU is making 35 percent of their 3-pointers on the season.
Last WeekendLast weekend the Mountaineers were defeated in both of their contests. On Friday, EOU shot 35 percent from the floor as the Knights of Warner Pacific College defeated EOU, 76-59, on Bart Valentine Court. The Mountaineers struggled to hit the 3-pointer against the Knights. EOU made only two 3-pointers for the game, the fewest 3-pointers they have hit in a game, this season. On Saturday, Eastern Oregon looked as if they were going to upset No. 11 Concordia University on Saturday evening. However, the Cavaliers scored the last seven points of overtime to defeat EOU, 68-67.
De'Sean Mattox led the Mountaineers with 19 points.
Bryan McGriff added 16 points as the Mountaineers dropped their fourth straight game.
Deonta Edwards rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 points.
CCC TournamentThe 2015 Cascade Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Tournament will feature the top eight teams in the regular season standings. Seeding will be based on the regular season standings with the highest remaining seed hosting the round. The winners of the CCC regular season and the CCC tournament earn automatic bids to the NAIA Division II Championship.
