Women's Basketball Weekly Notes: Northwest and Evergreen

This Weekend
The Eastern Oregon University Women's Basketball team closes out their 2014-15 regular season schedule this weekend when they travel to Northwest University and The Evergreen State College. Both games will tip at 5:30 p.m. PT.
 
No. 17
On Tuesday, the Mountaineers made the biggest leap in the 2014-15 NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll. EOU increased four positions, from No. 21 to No. 17. This is the highest the Mountaineers have been ranked this season. EOU received 162 points to earn this ranking.
 
Regular Season Title
Eastern Oregon is in first place in the CCC by one game over Southern Oregon. This weekend, the Mountaineers can clinch a share of the regular season title with a win on Friday night and win the CCC Regular season title with a pair of wins this weekend. EOU can also clinch the conference title with a Southern Oregon loss.
 
CCC Tournament
The 2015 Cascade Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Tournament will feature the top eight teams in the regular season standings. Seeding will be based on the regular season standings with the highest remaining seed hosting the round. The winners of the CCC regular season and the CCC tournament earn automatic bids to the NAIA Division II Championship.
 
Looking at the Opponents
Northwest

The Eagles of Northwest University 11-16 record and are 3-13 in the CCC. The Eagles are averaging 65.6 points per game, the sixth most points in the CCC. Northwest is led by Jordan Asher, who is averaging 12.5 points per game. Chanara Greene follows with 12.4 points per game. On the season, opponents are averaging 68.0 points per game and are allowing opponents to shoot 38.7 percent from the floor.
Evergreen
The Evergreen State College Geoducks are 15-8 this regular season and are 9-7 in the CCC. Currently, the Geoducks are sitting in fourth place in the CCC. Evergreen is averaging 65.8 points per game, fourth most in the CCC, and are led by LaNieci Weatherspoon, who is averaging 14.3 points per game.  Opponents are scoring 58.5 points per game and are holding opponents to shoot 37.3 percent from the floor.
 
Last Time Verse
Earlier this season at Quinn Coliseum, the Mountaineers defeated Evergreen, 75-50, and Northwest, 94-49, to open the CCC conference season.
 
Last Weekend
The Mountaineers capped off a perfect regular season at home this past weekend as they went 2-0 with victories over Corban and Northwest Christian. On Friday, a strong second half by the Corban, which saw them shoot 43 percent in the second half, pushed Eastern Oregon to overtime. EOU outscored the Warriors 14-5 in overtime to come away with a 67-58 victory on Friday night at Quinn Coliseum. Leading the way for the Mountaineers was Airashay Rogers and Maya Ah You with 18 apiece. Kassy Larson rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points. Nikki Osborne and Larson led the team with nine rebounds apiece. The next night, Eastern Oregon won their eighth straight contest as they defeated Northwest Christian, 81-50, on Senior Night at Quinn Coliseum. The Mountaineers were led by a game-high 23 points by Maya Ah You. Ah You was 6-for-10 shooting the ball including 5-of-8 from behind the arc. Lone senior, Kassy Larson followed with 19 points and she collected a game-high eight rebounds. Madeline Laan and Airashay Rogers followed with 15 points and 14 points, respectively.
 
What's Up Next
The Mountaineers will host a CCC Tournament Quarterfinals game on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at Quinn Coliseum. The opponent will not be known until Saturday night.
