Mountaineers Defeat Northwest Christian, 81-50

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 21 Eastern Oregon University Women's Basketball team won their eighth straight contest as they defeated Northwest Christian, 81-50, on Senior Night at Quinn Coliseum.
 
The Mountaineers were led by a game-high 23 points by Maya Ah You. Ah You was 6-for-10 shooting the ball including 5-of-8 from behind the arc. Lone senior, Kassy Larson followed with 19 points and she collected a game-high eight rebounds. Madeline Laan and Airashay Rogers followed with 15 points and 14 points, respectively.
 
Chandler Gabrio was the lone Beacon in double-figures on the night as she scored 14 points. Allie Kelsey followed with nine points.
 
The Mountaineers' offense was off to a fast start against Northwest Christian as they scored the first six points of the game, and 10 of the first 12 points, over the first four and a half minutes of the half. The Beacons started to chip away at the lead as they cut the lead down to three, 12-9 after a Gabrio 3-pointer.
 
EOU took control again as they built the lead up to eight points, 17-9, after a Laan old fashion three point play. Again, the Beacons had an answer as they trimmed the lead to three points. After the lead was down to three points, EOU grew the lead to 10, 24-14.
 
The lead for the Mountaineers continued to grow and with a minute and a half before halftime Ah You put EOU up by 20, 40-20, after she hit a pair of free throws. Both teams scored two more points in the first half and EOU took a 20 point lead, 42-22, into halftime.
 
The Mountaineers wasted no time extending their lead in the second half. Over the first three minutes of the half, EOU increased their lead to 26 points, 52-26, after a Rogers fast break layup.
 
EOU continued to hold onto at least a 20 point lead for the remainder of the contest. With 7:29 left in the second half, EOU found themselves ahead by 34, 73-39, after a jumper by Larson.
 
Northwest Christian had no answer for the Mountaineers. EOU came away with an 81-50 victory. For the game the Mountaineers shot 47 percent from the floor.

The Mountaineers return to action next Friday, Feb. 20th when they travel to Kirkland, Wash. to take on Northwest University. Northwest Christian University travels to Corban University next Saturday night.
