PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 25 Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team increased their winning-streak to five games after defeating Concordia University, 73-54, on Saturday evening.
Nikki Osborne led all scorers with 18 points as she was 4-of-6 behind the arc and 4-for-4 from free throw line.
Kassy Larson had a double-double, 15 points and 12 rebounds, for the Mountaineers (19-5, 11-2 CCC).
Airashay Rogers added 12 and
Maya Ah You scored 10 to round out the players with double figures. The Mountaineers shot 46 percent from the field, including 47 percent from behind the 3-point line.
Janae Klarich led the Cavaliers (11-10, 5-7 CCC) with 11 points. Briannah Smith and Sierra Dean added nine points, apiece.
Madeline Laan scored the first points of the game, followed by a 3 pointer by
Jordan Klebaum to jump out to an early 5-0 lead. Concordia responded with a 3pointer from Lexi Campbell. EOU and Concordia traded baskets and with 14:50 left, Concordia tied the game at 9-9 and took the lead less than a minute later, 11-9. Concordia grew their lead to as many as five, over a six minute span.
With eight minutes left in the half, Rogers regained the lead for EOU after hitting a 3-pointer. After the 3-pointer by Rogers, both teams went cold and were held without a basket for two minutes. Ah You broke the period of no scoring and sparked a 10-6 run to close out the half with EOU leading, 40-30.
EOU opened up the second half and extended their lead to 13 points, 43-30, after an Osborne 3-pointer. Concordia answered back, trimming the Mountaineers lead down to six, 43-37, after the Cavaliers went on a 7-0 run. Ah You responded with a 3-pointer and
Kassy Larson added a jumper to grow EOU's lead back to double-digits, 48-37.
After a jumper by Larson, EOU grabbed a 15 point lead, 54-39, but both teams went cold and there was one made basket for the next four minutes. Ah You extended the Mountaineers' lead to 16, 57-41, after hitting a 3-pointer, breaking the cold streak.
Holding a 16 point lead, the Mountaineers' lead was trimmed down to eight points, 57-49, after the Cavaliers went on an 8-0 run, with 5:44 left in the game.
The Mountaineers held the Cavaliers to five points for the remainder of the contest and grew their lead to as many as 19 points. In the final two minutes of the game, EOU was a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. EOU defeated the Cavaliers, 73-54.
The Mountaineers return to action on Friday, Feb. 6 when they host College of Idaho at Quinn Coliseum. The game starts at 5:30 p.m. PT. Wear White and get loud.
