Box Score SALEM, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team held Corban to just one field goal in the fourth quarter, and the Mountaineers cruised to a 16-point triumph over the Warriors on Friday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play.
Key Performances
Senior guard Jordan Klebaum led three Mountaineers in double figures with 19 points, including five three's. Sophomore guard Payton Parrish recorded 16 points in 21 minutes off the bench, while senior forward Madeline Laan added 14 points. In addition, senior forward Nikki Osborne pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
Corban was led by Julia Young's 10 points and six rebounds.
The Mountaineers shot 43.8 percent (14-32) and hit five three's in the second half to build a lead. A smothering defensive effort by EOU confined Corban to just four field goals in the final 20 minutes.
The Storyline
After Laan's layup put EOU on top, 8-7, with 6:08 left in the opening quarter, the Warriors scored 13 of the final 17 points of the frame to take a 20-12 lead. Corban soon extended its advantage to 11 (29-18), but Klebaum netted two-straight three's to keep the Mountaineers within striking distance. Parrish put in a pair of layups to make it a five-point (33-28) affair, and EOU ultimately trailed at halftime, 38-30.
EOU opened the third quarter with a 13-2 run capped by five-straight points from Parrish to snatch a 43-40 lead with 4:25 left in the frame. Corban (4-7, 0-3 CCC) eventually tied the contest at 45 apiece after a three-pointer by Annie Owen, but Klebaum fired right back with a long-ball of her own to give the Mountaineers a three-point lead going into the fourth quarter.
Although Corban got to within one (48-47) 10 seconds into the fourth stanza , EOU tossed in 15 unanswered points thanks to contributions from Laan, Klebaum, and Parrish and held the Warriors without a field goal to seal the 63-47 triumph.
