PORTLAND, Ore. – Mario Guizar fired a long ball from 25 yards out to score past EOU keeper Alfredo Lara in the final ticks of double overtime, and the Eastern Oregon University men's soccer team lost a 1-0 heartbreaker to Warner Pacific on Saturday night. The game wrapped up the first-ever men's soccer season at EOU.
"This season has been extremely positive," said head men's soccer coach Stan Rodrigues. "I have said before that maturity and experience plays the biggest part in a team's success. I know we have grown in both areas, and this game tonight has to be a learning lesson. My staff and team have done many things this season that not many expected. We ended one spot above the preseason polls, and we gave ourselves a chance for playoffs. The thing that I am most proud of is that we built a family at EOU and it will continue to grow."
Key Performances
Both junior defender Osvaldo Martinez and junior midfielder Sidronio Rangel launched two shots apiece for the Navy and Gold. EOU got off 11 total shots in the game, including four on frame.
