No. 24For the first time since the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, EOU climbed back into the Top 25 as they are ranked No. 24 in the third regular season edition.
Last WeekendLast Weekend the Mountaineers went 2-0 with wins over Concordia (Ore.) and Warner Pacific (Ore.). On Friday, EOU held the visiting Cavaliers to 29 percent shooting as EOU cruised to a 72-46 victory on Friday evening at Quinn Coliseum. Coming off the bench,
Maya Ah You led the Mountaineers with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 2-for-3 from behind the arc.
Madeline Laan followed with 14 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the floor.
Kassy Larson and
Nikki Osborne rounded out the double-digit scorers for EOU as they scored 11 points, apiece. EOU continued wining on Saturday as they won their third straight game as they defeated Warner Pacific College, 67-55, Saturday night at Quinn Coliseum. Eastern Oregon had three players score in double-figures as
Madeline Laan and
Maya Ah You scored a game-high 14 points, apiece.
Jordan Klebaum added 12 points.
Looking at the YotesThe Yotes of College of Idaho enter this weekend with an overall record of 5-10 and 4-2 in the CCC. The Yotes won their third-straight home game and extended a surge with their fourth overall win in five games after a 1-9 start to the season. Leading the Yotes in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals is Elisha Hensey. Hensey is averaging 11.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game for the Yotes. College of Idaho is scoring 57.5 points per game, while allowing 70.1, which is the most points allowed by a CCC school. College of Idaho is shooting 35.4 percent from the floor during the 2014-15 season.
Sharing the BallThe Mountaineers are sharing the ball this season. EOU has three players scoring in double-figures led by
Kassy Larson's 12.8 points per game. Along with sharing the scoring load, EOU ranked first in the nation in total assists on the season with 331 and assists per game (19.5). EOU has three players who have more than 30 assists on the season.
Maloree Moss leads the team averaging 3.7 assists per game.
Cleaning the GlassEOU is collecting a CCC best 47.5 rebounds per game and are outrebounding their opponents by a +14.9 margin. On Jan. 2, the Mountaineers outrebounded the Cavaliers of Concordia by 33 rebounds (59-26).
Outscoring OpponentsEastern Oregon has outscored opponents by a margin of 23.8 points per game. This is the second highest margin in the NAIA. On the season the Mountaineers are outscoring opponents by 231 points (641-to-410) in the first half of games this season. On the season EOU were tied or trailing in three games at halftime.
Bench ProductionOn the season, EOU has had excellent success with the production coming off their bench. EOU's bench has only been outscored in two contests this season. In the last two games,
Maya Ah You came off the bench to lead or tie for the team lead in points.
Reining Player of the WeekOn Jan. 5 Haylee Burnham of College of Idaho was named Red Lion Player of the Week. Burnham a junior guard from Jerome, Idaho, had a career-high 24 points in Friday's win against Warner Pacific. She followed that with 20 points helping the Yotes defeat No. 24 Concordia. She was also a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line.
