Click here This WeekendThis weekend the Mountaineers head to Caldwell, Idaho to face I-84 rival College of Idaho on Friday Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m. MT. On Saturday, EOU travels to College Park, Wash. to face Walla Walla University in their last non-conference game of the season.
Last WeekendLast Friday, EOU was defeated by No. 13 Concordia, 78-60, on Friday evening at Quinn Coliseum.
Bryan McGriff led the Mountaineers (9-5, 2-3 CCC) with a game-high 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting.
Austin Strock came off the bench and went 5-of-12 shooting for 13 points to round out the double-figure scorers for EOU. The next night,
Bryan McGriff led the Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team with 29 points on 10-of-16 shooting but it proved to be not enough as the hot shooting Knights of Warner Pacific College defeated EOU, 82-60. Following McGriff was
De'Sean Mattox and
Case Rada with seven points, each. EOU shot 39 percent (22-of-56) on the night and were 5-for-23 from behind the arc.
Looking at the Opponents
College of IdahoThe Yotes of College of Idaho are currently won their last two games and are 15-3 and 4-2 in the CCC. The Yotes have used the same starting lineup for the entire season. Leading the way is Demetrius Perkins who is averaging 13.2 points per game. As a team, College of Idaho is averaging 81.0 points per game and shooting 44-percent from the floor. The Yotes are only allowing 69.0 points per game, 34th best in the NAIA. College of Idaho blocked 100 shots on the season, the most blocks in the nation.
Walla WallaThe Wolves of Walla Walla University enter this weekend with a 1-15 record. In the last game for Walla Walla, the Wolves defeated Multnomah University, 75-70. Tyreek Luckett leads the Wolves in scoring as he is averaging 13.8 points per game, however, he has not played since Dec. 8. AS a team, the Wolves are averaging, 59.0 points per game.
Earlier This SeasonEarlier this season, the Mountaineers and Wolves played against each other in the Quinn Classic and the Taco Bell Shootout hosted by College of Idaho. EOU was victorious in both games as EOU defeated Walla Walla, 108-71, during the Quinn Classic and the next week defeated Walla Walla, 87-57, in Caldwell, Idaho.
Three-Point Field GoalsEOU ranks sixth in the nation in made three-pointers per game as they are making 9.8 per game. Eastern Oregon has three players on the team that have made 25 or more three pointers on the season. Leading the for EOU is
De'Sean Mattox as he has made a team-high 43. Mattox is shooting 43 percent from behind the arc this season. As a team, EOU is hitting 37.9 percent of their three pointers.
Scoring OffenseThe Mountaineers find themselves leading the Cascade Collegiate Conference in offensive scoring this season. EOU is averaging 86.6 points per game, which is five points more than the next closest team.
Double-DoublesJunior,
Bryan McGriff finds himself second in the NAIA in double-doubles on the season. He currently has nine double-doubles on the season.
Scoring DuoBryan McGriff and
De'Sean Mattox are leading the Mountaineers in scoring this season. McGriff is averaging 23.0 points per game; the seventh most in the NAIA and Mattox's 21.3 per game is 15th best. These two are the only two teammates to be ranked in the top 20 for points per game.
Yotes Home Court StreakCollege of Idaho is currently on a 26 game-winning streak at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center. College of Idaho was a perfect 17-0 last season at home and have started this season 9-0 at home. The last loss at home came on Feb. 20, 2013 when they were defeated by Northwest University. The winning streak started when Head Coach Scott Garson took over at the helm. Not only is Coach Garson perfect at home, he is a perfect 32-0 in the state of Idaho.
Road TripThe Mountaineers will be on the road for next four games. This is the longest road trip of the season for the Mountaineers.
Next Home GameThe next time the Mountaineers are at home is on Jan. 23 when they host Oregon Tech at Quinn Coliseum at 7:30 p.m.
