Klebaum Leads EOU Past Warner Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 25 Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team shot 54 percent and held Warner Pacific College to 25 percent shooting as the Mountaineers routed the Knights 78-44 on Friday night on Bart Valentine Court.
 
Jordan Klebaum led the Mountaineers (18-5, 10-2 CCC) with 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 5-for-10 from behind the arc. A trio of Mountaineers - Airashay Rogers, Kelsey Hill and Maya Ah You- followed with nine points.
 
Daesha Jackson led the Knights (9-14, 2-9 CCC) with nine points. Jordan Wilcox added eight for the Knights, who lost their third straight contest.
 
The Knights grabbed an early 2-0 lead over the Mountaineers as Jackson hit a layup to start the game. After a pair of free throws by Madeline Laan, the Knights answered back on a Lindsey Loe hit a layup. With Warner Pacific ahead, 4-2, Klebaum hit her first 3-pointer of the game putting EOU ahead, 5-4. Klebaum's 3-pointer gave EOU their first lead of the game and sparked a 10-0 run for EOU. After the first five and a half minutes of the game, EOU led Warner Pacific, 12-4.
 
Eastern Oregon slowly continued to extend their lead and a jumper by Ah You put the Mountaineers ahead by 13, 23-10, with 10:45 left in the half. The Mountaineers double-figure lead disappeared over the next seven minutes of the contest, and a pair of free-throws by Lorena Torres trimmed the EOU lead down to six, 29-23.
 
Over the final three minutes of the half, EOU held the Knights to two points, while scoring 13 points of their own, growing their lead to 17 points, 42-25, the biggest lead of the first half, going into halftime.
 
The Mountaineers continued to add to their lead starting the second half, as they opened up the half by scoring the first 11 points of the half, increasing their lead to 28 points, 53-25.
 
Eastern Oregon continued to hold onto their 20 plus point lead as they continued to play solid defense. During the first ten minutes of the second half, the Knights had scored only six points. Klebaum increased the lead for EOU to 29 points, 60-31, after hitting a 3-pointer.
 
The Mountaineers continued to extend their lead and a Hill layup gave the EOU a 35 point lead, 70-53, their biggest lead of the night. EOU held onto a 30 point lead for the remainder of the night and defeated Warner Pacific, 78-44.

 The Mountaineers return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 31 when they play at Concordia University. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. PT.
