Women's Basketball Weekly Notes: Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon

This Weekend
This weekend the Mountaineers host Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon. On Friday in Quinn, it will be Flashback Friday, come watch EOU and listen to some old school tunes. Saturday is High School Night; all high school students receive free admission with a valid student ID.
 
Last Weekend
Last weekend the Mountaineers went 1-1. On Friday, the Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team saw their four game winning streak come to an end after being defeated by Northwest Christian University, 70-57. Kassy Larson led the Mountaineers with 14 points, the only Mountaineer in double-figures. She also collected nine rebounds during the game. Jordan Klebaum and Maloree Moss followed with nine points, apiece, for EOU. The Mountaineers rebounded on Saturday when junior Jordan Klebaum led  EOU with, a game-high, 22 points, in a 76-66 victory over Corban University. Klebaum made a season-high six three-pointers in the victory for the Mountaineers. Madeline Laan added 15 points, on 6-of-13 shooting. Maloree Moss led EOU with seven rebounds and five assists.
 
Looking at the Opponents
Oregon Tech

The Owls of Oregon Tech enter this weekend with a 16-5 overall record and 5-4 in the CCC. They are currently in a fourth place tie with College of Idaho in conference action. The Owls come in holding opponents to 50.3 points per game on the season. This is the best in the CCC and fourth best in the NAIA. They are averaging 66.6 points per game and are led by Karly LeVeque, who is averaging 11.0 points per game. The Owls had their four game winning streak snapped on Jan. 17 when they were defeated, 89-78, by Southern Oregon.
Southern Oregon
Southern Oregon enters this weekend tied for first in the CCC with EOU as both teams hold a 7-2 record in conference action. The Raiders are 16-2 and have won their last four straight contests. The Raiders last victory came on Jan. 17, when they defeated Oregon Tech, 89-78. Leading the way for Southern Oregon is Alexia Smith, who is averaging 13.8 points per game. On the season, the Raiders are scoring 86.7 points per game, the most in the CCC.  They rank first in the NAIA in three-point percent (38.4) and Field goal percent (49.2).
 
CCC First Place Battle
On Saturday, when Eastern Oregon and Southern Oregon take to the court at Quinn Coliseum, it will feature the two teams currently tied for first place in the CCC. Both teams enter this weekend with a 7-2 mark in the CCC.
 
Dishing out Assists
As a team, the Mountaineers have collected 364 assists on the season. This is the sixth best mark in the NAIA and the most total assists on the season in the CCC. Eastern Oregon is averaging 18.2 assists per game, second best in the CCC and sixth best in the nation.
 
Field Goal Percentage
On the season, senior Kassy Larson is making 56.2 percent of her field goal attempts. She ranks tenth in the nation in this category.
 
Versus Top 25 Teams
This season the Mountaineers are 2-2 when playing teams ranked in the Top 25. EOU's victories came against NAIA Division I then- No. 13 Lewis-Clark State, 62-50, on Dec. 14 and against then-No. 24 Concordia, 72-46, on Jan. 2. The Mountaineers losses were to NAIA Division I then-No. 4 Westminster, 39-58 and then-No. 15 Southern Oregon, 82-90.
 
Next Home Game
The next time the Mountaineers will be at Quinn Coliseum is Feb. 6 when they host I-84 rival, College of Idaho, at 5:30 p.m. PT.
 
What's Up Next
The Mountaineers hit the road next weekend as they travel to Portland, Ore. to face Warner Pacific on Friday Jan. 30 and Concordia on Saturday, Jan. 31. Both games start at 5:30 p.m. PT.
