EUGENE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team saw their four game winning streak come to an end on Friday evening after being defeated by Northwest Christian University, 70-57.
Kassy Larson led the Mountaineers (14-5, 6-2 CCC) with 14 points, the only Mountaineer in double-figures. She also collected nine rebounds during the game.
Jordan Klebaum and
Maloree Moss followed with nine points, apiece, for EOU.
Breanna Schmidt came off the bench to lead the Beacons (7-9, 3-5 CCC) with 13 points. Demarea Caples followed with 11 points.
Early in the contest, Northwest Christian held a small lead of 4-2. EOU tied the game on a layup by Larson. Eight seconds later, the Beacons regained the lead on a jumper by Allie Kelsey to which EOU responded with by a jumper by Moss, tying the game at 6-6.
Both teams continued to go back and forth and with 11:52 remaining in the first half, EOU and Northwest Christian were tied at 14-14. On the next possession for the Beacons, Melyssa Weber put Northwest Christian ahead, 16-14.
The Beacons slowly started to extend their lead over EOU, and held the lead for the remainder of the half. Northwest Christian picked up their defense late in the first half and held the Mountaineers without a field goal for a six minute stretch. During the stretch, the Beacons extend their lead to as many as 13 points, 28-15.
Eastern Oregon tried to slowly mount a comeback in the half but could not trim the lead to single digits and EOU went into halftime trailing, 34-22. In the first half, the Mountaineers shot 30 percent from the floor.
The Mountaineers came out on fire to start the second half, as they opened up on a 12-2 run trimming the Beacons lead down to two points, 36-34.

Eastern Oregon continued to stay close and with 15 minutes remaining in the second half, a jumper by
Maloree Moss put EOU down one, 39-38. Northwest Christian answered right back and over the next five minutes, stretched their lead back to double-digits, 54-44.
EOU could not battle back and late in the game Northwest Christian held a 15 point lead, 70-55, after a Demarea Caples free throw.
Larissa Quintana hit a jumper for EOU to put them down 13, 70-57, which was the final score.
The Mountaineers return to action tomorrow, Jan. 17, when they play at Corban University. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. PT.
