SALEM, Ore. – Junior
Jordan Klebaum led the Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team with, a game-high, 22 points to a 76-66 victory over Corban University on Saturday evening.
Klebaum made a season-high six three-pointers in the victory for the Mountaineers (15-5, 7-2 CCC).
Madeline Laan added 15 points, on 6-of-13 shooting.
Maloree Moss led EOU with seven rebounds and five assists.
Leading the Warriors (12-9, 6-3 CCC) was Payton Wilcox's 14 points. Sade Pilgeram added 12 points for Corban, who had their three game winning streak snapped. Haley Holbroke rounded out the double-figure scorers for Corban with 10.
Eastern Oregon found themselves down a point, 3-2, early after Pilgeram hit a three pointer for the Warriors. Corbans lead lasted only one minute and 10 seconds as a layup by Laan put EOU ahead, 4-3. Once EOU took the lead they never looked back and led the remainder of the contest.
After taking the lead, EOU slowly grew their lead out to 10 points, 19-9, after an old fashion three-point play by
Kassy Larson. The Warriors tried to mount a comeback but could not cut the Mountaineers lead to anything lower than eight points, 29-21, with 6:54 left in the half.
The Mountaineers grew their lead to 13 points, 38-25, after a Klebaum three-pointer. The Warriors put up a fight and scored the last three points of the half and EOU took a 10 point lead, 38-28, at halftime.
Corban came out and scored the first two points of the second half but those were the only two points for the Warriors for the first four minutes of the half.
Maya Ah You extended the Mountaineers' lead to 13, 43-30, after making a layup.
EOU continued to grow their lead in the second half and after five straight-points by
Airashay Rogers, Eastern Oregon held a lead of 55-39 with 11:42 left in the half. This was the biggest lead of the game for the Mountaineers.
The Warriors did not go away and started to battle back. Corban held the Mountaineers scoreless for a three minute stretch and during the stretch Corban cut the Eastern Oregon lead down to seven points, 61-54, with 4:31 left in the half.
EOU increased their lead to nine points, 63-54, after a Laan layup, however, the Warriors' Pilgeram hit a three-pointer cutting the EOU lead to six, 63-57, with 3:48 to go in the game.
The Warriors continued to battle back against EOU and trimmed the Mountaineers' lead to five points, the closest Corban would get. EOU sealed the game at the free-throw line as they made seven of their eight free throws with under a minute to go in the game. EOU defeated Corban, 76-66.
The Mountaineers forced 23 Warrior turnovers and converted those into 28 points.
The Mountaineers return to action on Friday, Jan. 23 when they host Oregon Tech at 5:30 p.m. PT at Quinn Coliseum.
