LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team hit 13 3-pointers en route to a 78-66 victory over the visiting Oregon Tech Owls on Friday evening at Quinn Coliseum.
Jordan Klebaum led the Mountaineers (16-5, 8-2 CCC) with five 3-pointers, to account for her 15 points.
Maloree Moss scored 16 points, hitting two 3-pointers, to lead EOU in points while
Maya Ah You added 11 points off the bench.
Karly LeVeque scored a game-high 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting for the Owls (16-6, 5-5 CCC). Megan Whetstone scored 10 points to round out the double-figure scorers for Oregon Tech.
The Mountaineers and Owls were locked in a highly contested game with no team holding a lead greater than two points during the first eight minutes of the game. Oregon Tech's Whetstone tied the game at 9-9 with a jumper in the lane.
With the game tied at 9-9,
Airashay Rogers broke the tie as she hit a 3-pointer, however, the Mountaineers could not hold onto the lead. The Owls battled back and took a two point lead, 14-12. After the Owls took the lead the game remained a two point game until the game was tied at 20-20.
With the game tied at 20-20, the Mountaineers scored the next six points taking the lead, 26-20. EOU looked as if they would extend their lead but the Owls continued to battle back and with 2:21 left in the half, EOU led by one point, 31-30.
Tess Armstrong gave the Owls a 32-31 lead with 2:21 left in the half. EOU went on to score the last five points of the half and held a 36-32 lead at halftime.
The Mountaineers opened the second half by scoring the first seven points of the half to take a 43-32 lead over the Owls. The Owls battled and trimmed the lead back to seven points, 43-36, after a Whetstone jumper.
Eastern Oregon put the game out of reach for Oregon Tech when EOU went on a 10-0 run over a four minute span to extend the Mountaineers' lead to 19 points, 58-39. The Mountaineers increased their lead to 25 points, 72-47, after an Ah You jumper.
Oregon Tech closed out the game on a 19-6 run to trim the Mountaineers lead down to 12 points, 78-66, but that would be as close as Oregon Tech would get as EOU came away with the victory. EOU defeated Oregon Tech, 78-66.
The Mountaineers return to action tomorrow at Quinn Coliseum when they host Southern Oregon at 5:30 p.m. PT. Oregon Tech travels to College of Idaho to face the Yotes at 5:30 p.m. MT.
