Women's Basketball Weekly Notes: NCU and Corban

This Weekend
The Mountaineers head to Eugene and Salem this weekend to play Northwest Christian and Corban on Friday and Saturday. Both games start at 5:30 p.m. PT.
 
Last Weekend
 A season-high 22 points by Airshay Rogers led the No. 24 Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team past I-84 rival College of Idaho, 67-60, on Friday evening at the J.A. Albertson's Activities Center. Rogers, was 7-of-13 shooting to lead EOU to their fourth straight victory. Madeline Laan followed with 16 points, while Maya Ah You added 11 points. Kassy Larson just missed out on a double-double as she scored nine points and collected nine rebounds.
 
Looking at the Opponents
Northwest Christian

The Beacons of Northwest Christian University enter this weekend with a record of 6-9 over and 2-5 in the CCC. Northwest Christian is coming off a 71-61 victory over Warner Pacific on Jan. 10. On the season, the Beacons are averaging 66.6 points per game while allowing 68.1 points per game. The Beacons are led by Chandler Gabrio, who is averaging 9.9 points per game. Gabrio has appeared in 11 games for the Beacons, starting three. Melyssa Weber is second on the team with an average of 9.6 points per game. Northwest Christian ranks 23rd in the NAIA in blocks per game as they average 4.0 per game.
Corban
The Warriors of Corban University enter this weekend with a CCC record of 5-2 and an overall record of 11-8. Corban has won their last two contests as they defeated Warner Pacific, 72-56, and Concordia, 66-55, last weekend. The Warriors hold a record of 2-5 at home this season. Jade Lowery leads the Warriors on the offensive end as she averages 14.5 points per game. Tara Van Weerdhuizen follows averaging 13.3 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. On the season, Corban has blocked 99 shots on the season, third most in the NAIA. They are blocking 5.2 blocks per game, the eighth best mark in the nation.
 
Rebounding Margin
Eastern Oregon has the best rebounding margin in the NAIA. The Mountaineers are outrebounding opponents by 15.2 rebounds per game.  The next closest team in the nation is Southern Oregon who is collecting 12.4 more rebounds than their opponents.
 
Scoring Offense
The Mountaineers enter this weekend with the 19th best scoring offense in the nation. EOU is averaging 77.9 points per game.
 
Block Shots
Corban enters this weekend with 99 block shots per game. This is the third most block shots in the nation. They are averaging 5.2 blocks per game.  Out of their 99 blocks this season, Tara Van Weerhuizen leads the team with 60 blocks.
 
Van Weerhuizen Player of the Week
On Monday, Tara Van Weerhuizen was named CCC Red Lion Player of the Week. Van Weerhuizen, a senior center from Spokane, Wash., registered another big week for the Warriors, averaging 18.5 points per game to go along with 11.5 rebounds per game. Overall, she totaled eight blocks and four assists as well in Corban's weekend sweep of the two Portland-based schools.
 
What's Up Next
The Mountaineers return to action on Friday, Jan. 23 when they host Oregon Tech at 5:30 p.m. PT. The following night, EOU will host Southern Oregon.
