Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team used a strong second half to shut out the Firestorm of Arizona Christian, 3-0 on Friday afternoon at the Westminster Fall Classic.
Early in the first half it looked as if EOU was going to break onto the scoreboard early as
Alora Brown fired a shot at Alex Dugan in the first two minutes of the game. Dugan recorded the save to keep the game scoreless.
EOU kept the pressure on the Firestorm's defense as
Makensie Forsyth looked to put EOU on the board in the 24th minute of the match. Forsyth fired a shot on goal but Dugan recorded the save to keep the game scoreless.
Eastern Oregon outshot Arizona Christian, 3-0, in the first half but the game was scoreless at halftime.
After holding the Arizona Christian without a shot in the first half, the Firestorm came out shooting in the second half. Ten minutes into the half, Chelsea Ruland missed a shot wide. Eight minutes later, Kelsey Stipek took a shot and EOU goalkeeper
Jessica Parker recorded the save.
With 26 minutes left in the game, EOU took control. After a Arizona Christian turnover around midfield,
Kaeliana De Vera took the ball and dribbled down the field. The Firestorms goalie came out of the goal and De Vera beat her to the far post to put the Mountaineers on top 1-0.
Eight minutes later the Mountaineers added its second goal of the game.
Danika Pink found
Sydney Nelson, who beat Bailey Seltzer for the goal. Pink controlled the ball and Seltzer came out of the goal and Pink found Nelson who put the ball in the back of the net to extend EOU's lead to 2-0.
Eastern Oregon made it 3-0 five minutes after Nelson's goal.
Kendra Corless found
Katherine Hood in the box and Hood beat Seltzer to put EOU ahead 3-0.
EOU claimed the win as De Vera, Nelson and Hood scored for the Mountaineers and Pink and Corless picked up assists.
The Mountaineers return to action tomorrow, Saturday Sept. 6th when they play host Westminster at 11 a.m.PT.
