Tachikara-NAIA Coaches' Poll
On Tuesday, the NAIA announced the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll and Eastern Oregon was ranked No. 23. This is the second straight year that the Mountaineers have opened the season in the top 25. The Mountaineers received 146 points to edge Davenport (Mich.) and Missouri Baptist by six points for the 23 ranking. Last season the Mountaineers climbed to as high as No. 9 in the Nation in the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Poll, which was the highest they have ever been ranked.
 
Last Weekend
On Aug. 16 the Mountaineers opened up their 2014 season with a 3-2 (25-23, 25-27, 25-16, 24-26, 15-8) over Cal State San Marcos in Portland, Ore. Leading the Mountaineers attack was Casey Loper, who recorded 17 kills on the afternoon. Newcomers Kendra De Hoog followed with 16 kills, while Rachelle Chamberlain dished out 39 assists in the victory over the Cougars.
 
Last Year in Spokane
Last season, Eastern Oregon University traveled to Spokane and went 5-1 on the weekend. EOU's only loss last year came to Rocky Mountain (Mont.). Eastern Oregon plays three teams this year that they saw last year in Spokane. EOU will play MSU-Northern, Montana Western and Great Falls. Last season EOU defeated MSU-Northern, 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-17, 25-20), Montana Western, 3-1 (26-24, 25-16, 22-25, 25-20) and Great Falls, 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-17).
 
After Spokane
After this weekend  the Mountaineers will head south to California to participate in the Concordia (Calif.) Labor Day Tournament. The Mountaineers will  open action up against No. 8 Biola (Calif.)
 
Home Opener
EOU opens its home schedule on September 3rd when Walla Walla University travels to La Grande to take on the Mountaineers.
