Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho – The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team struggled shooting the three ball as they shot 3-for-20 from behind the arc, as No. 8 College of Idaho defeated EOU, 67-54, Friday evening.
A trio of Mountaineers scored in double-figures led by Tony Eackles Jr., who scored 13 points.
Kalvin Johanson followed with 11 and
Derek Maloney rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10.
The Mountaineers offense started off cold as EOU went the first three and a half minutes without a field goal. During this stretch the Yotes took an early 6-0 lead.
Tony Eackles Jr. put EOU on the board with a layup and EOU continued to battle and cut the lead down to one point, 6-5.
The Yoes continued to hold a lead and with 14 minutes left in the first half, College of Idaho led by three points, 10-7. College of Idaho's offense continued to attack and extend its lead and the lead grew to eight points, 18-10, after a pair of free throws by Joe Vaz.
Eastern Oregon continued to attack and battle and trimmed the Yotes lead to four points, 24-20, with 3:17 left before halftime. However, the Mountaineers only scored six points the remainder of the half and College of Idaho took a nine point lead into halftime, 35-26.
The Mountaineers offense remained cold to start the second half of the contest as the Yotes held the Mountaineers to two points for the first six minutes of the contest. During this stretch College of Idaho scored eight points to extend its lead to 15 points, 43-28.
College of Idaho's grew their out lead to 21 points, 50-29, after a layup by Jordan O'Byrne. The Yotes continued to hold onto its 21 point lead until there was less three minutes to go in the second half.
EOU went on a 10-2 run to trim the lead down to 9 points, 62-53, with just over a minute remaining in the contest. That would be as close as EOU would get for the game and would fall, 67-54.
The Mountaineers return to action next Friday, Feb. 14, when they travel to Salem, Ore. to face Corban University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
