Strong Second Half Leads EOU to Victory

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team shot 63 percent in the second half to come from behind to defeat Northwest University, 77-66, Friday night at Quinn Coliseum.

Eastern Oregon had three players score in double figures led by Nicole Redd, who scored a game high 20 points. Northwest had four players score in double figures led Sanda Milovic and Domi Mendezona who both scored 15 apiece.

The Mountaineers and Eagles were locked in a tight battle for the first eight minutes of the contest as neither team took a lead over two points. Nicole Redd hit a three pointer to tie the game at 11-11. After the Mountaineers tied the game at 11 the Eagles went on a 10-4 run to take an eight point lead, 23-15.

Northwest continued to extend its lead to 13 points, 30-17, after a pair of free throws by Domi Mendezona. Trailing by 13, EOU held the Eagles scoreless for a four minute span at the end of the first half and scored 12 unanswered points to cut the Eagles lead down to one point, 30-29.

A layup by Mendezona gave the Eagles a three point lead, 32-29, going into halftime.

The Eagles continued to extend its lead in the early part of the second half. In the first two and a half minutes to go in the second half, Northwest led the Mountaineers, 39-33. The Mountaineers started to mount its comeback as they went on a 7-0 run to take a one point lead, 40-39.

However, after EOU took the lead the Eagles answered right back and held the Mountaineers scoreless for two minutes while scoring the next nine points of the contest, to take an eight point lead, 48-40. Once the Eagles had the lead the Mountaineers slowly climbed right back.

EOU went on a 9-0 run to take a 53-51 lead with 9:26 left in the second half. It looked as if the Eagles had comeback in them as they took a three point lead, 56-53. However, the Mountaineers offense continued to heat up and the Mountaineers went on a 15-2 run to take a 70-58 lead.

The Eagles had no answer to the Mountaineers after EOU's 15-2 run and Eastern Oregon came away with a 77-66 win.

The Mountaineers return to action tomorrow night when they host The Evergreen State College at 5:30 p.m.The Eagles return to action tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. MT when they play College of Idaho.
