In the ninth edition of the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Top 25 Poll, the Mountaineers fell two spots to No. 22. The Mountaineers have dropped at least one spot in the last four weeks. EOU has been ranked in the top 25 for eight straight weeks. The tenth regular season poll will be released on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Scouting the Opponents
Northwest
The Eagles of Northwest come into the contest against the Mountaineers with an 18-10 overall record and 10-6 in CCC action. Northwest has clinched a spot in the CCC Tournament. Northwest is led in scoring by Sanda Milovic and Domi Mendezona who are averaging 12.6 and 12.2 points respectfully. As a team the Eagles are averaging 68.1 points per game and are shooting 39.9 percent from the floor. Northwest's offense is scoring the sixth most points per game this season.
Evergreen
The Geoducks of Evergreen State college enter this weekend of play with a 13-10 overall record and 9-7 in conference action. Evergreen has clinched a spot in the CCC Tournament but do not know which seed they will be. Evergreen is averaging 68.9 points per game and only allowing opponents to score 66.4 points per game. Sammi Clark leads the Geoducks in scoring averaging 15.1 points per game, while Brittany Gray follows with 14.0 points per game.
CCC Tournament
Coming into the final weekend of CCC action, seven of the eight teams have clinched a spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament. Currently the Mountaineers sit atop the standings. However, every seed is up for play this weekend.
Earlier this Season
Earlier this season the Mountaineers faced Northwest and Evergreen to open conference play. he Mountaineers started the Cascade Collegiate Conference season, 2-0, as they defeated The Evergreen State College Geoducks and Northwest University Eagles this past weekend. The Mountaineers shot 60 percent from the floor en route to a 92-76 victory over Evergreen. Four players for EOU scored in double figures led by
Brittney Newcomb, who scored a game-high 32 points. Eastern Oregon's defense held the Geoducks to 31 percent shooting for the game. Against Northwest, the Mountaineers used a 22-2 run to start the second half to pull way for the Eagle. EOU came away with a 71-48 victory, for its second conference victory of the season. EOU was led by Newcomb's 15 points.
Leading the Nation
Senior
Brittney Newcomb continues to lead the nation in free throw percentage. Newcomb is shooting 91.0 percent from the free throw line on the season. She has made 141-of-155 free throws this season.
Second Best in the CCC
The Mountaineers come in at No. 2 in the Cascade Conference in Scoring per game and points allowed per game. EOU is averaging 77.9 points per game and are only allowing its opponents to score 63.3 points per game.
