Men's Basketball Weekly Notes: Evergreen and Northwest

Scouting the Opponents
Northwest

Northwest enters the last week of play as one of the eight teams who have qualified for the CCC Tournament. The Eagles enter the last weekend of the regular season with an 18-9 overall and 9-7 in CCC action. Northwest won its last game on Feb. 15, when they defeated Warner Pacific, 71-70, in overtime. Michael Greene leads the Eagles on the offensive end of the court as he averages 16.9 points per game. As a team, Northwest is averaging 81.7 points per game, fourth best in the conference, while allowing 74.3 points per game.
Evergreen
The Geoducks enters this weekend with a 4-19 overall record and 3-13 in conference play. Evergreen upset Concordia in its last contest on Feb. 15 with a 94-93 overtime victory. Evergreen is allowing the most points out of any Cascade Conference teams this season, as teams are scoring 83.9 points per game on the Geoducks. Evergreen is averaging 72.7 points per game and are led by Kyle Calhoun, who is averaging 17.5 points per game. Calhoun is tied for fourth in the conference in scoring.

Top Four
Coming into the final weekend of play, EOU's Tony Eackles Jr. is tied for fourth in the conference in scoring has he averages 17.5 points per game. Eackles leads EOU in scoring and has led EOU in scoring in 16 of the Mountaineers 26 games this season.

Blocks
The Mountaineers it in second place in the conference in total blocks with 120 shots on the season. The 120 block shots is third best in the nation.

The Last Time
The Mountaineers faced the Eagles and Geoducks back in December to open up the Cascade Conference action. he Mountaineers went 1-1 to open up conference play. On Dec. 6, Eastern Oregon defeated Evergreen, 73-54. Tony Eackles Jr. led the way for the Mountaineers as he scored 17 points. Kyllian Wood and Kalvin Johanson both recorded double-doubles for EOU. Wood scored 14 points and collected 13 rebounds, while Johanson scored 12 points and collected a game-high 19 rebounds. The next night, Eastern Oregon Eackles hit a three pointer to tie the game with three seconds to go in the second half but EOU fell, 93-84, in overtime. The Mountaineers had five players score in double digits on the night led by Eackles' 28 points.

CCC Tournament
All eight teams have been decided for the upcoming CCC Tournament, which starts on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The only seed that has been determined has been the No. 1 seed. College of Idaho will have home-court advantage throughout the conference tournament.
