Box Score SALEM, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball dropped its third straight contest Friday night to Corban University, 73-65. The Mountaineers offense struggled as they only shot 28 percent from the field in the loss.
Brittney Newcomb led all scorers with 29 points. 
Nicole Redd followed with 12 points to round out the double-figure scorers for EOU.
Eastern Oregon jumped out to a fast start in the contest. In the first minute and a half of the contest the Mountaineers went on a 7-2 run. Redd got the offense clicking right away as she drilled a three pointer. A jumper by 
Kassy Larson and Newcomb put the Mountaineers on top, 7-2.
After a few baskets by the Warriors, the Mountaineers answered back and grew its lead back to eight points, 14-6, after a 
Maloree Moss three pointer and a layup by Redd. Corban answered each of the Mountaineers runs by having runs of their own. With EOU ahead, 16-8, the Warriors came back and trimmed Eastern Oregon's lead to three points, 16-13, after a Jade Lowery layup.
The game remained close and after a pair of free throws by Daniele Vanderstoel, the Warriors tied the game at 17-17. The Warriors and Mountaineers started to trade leads for the next three minutes of the game. After Newcomb hit a pair of free throws the Mountaineers took a one point lead, 24-23, with 6:14 left in the half.
After taking the one point lead, Eastern Oregon went four minutes without a point and Corban answered by scoring the next five points to take a 28-24 lead. Newcomb broke the scoreless streak by knocking down a pair of free throws to cut the Warriors lead down to two points, 28-26. After Eastern Oregon tied the game at 28-28, the Warriors scored the last five points of the half and Corban took a 33-28 lead into halftime.
The Mountaineers tried to mount a comeback early in the second half. However, the Warriors had a different idea as Corban put up 11 points after a Megan Benedict three pointer. EOU cut the lead down to eight point game, 46-38, after a three pointer by Redd.
Corban extended its lead to 51-38, before the Mountaineers mounted its comeback. The Mountaineers slowly started to gain momentum as Newcomb completed an old fashion three point play to cut the Warriors lead to ten points, 51-41. Corban grew its lead back to 12 points, 55-43, but the Mountaineers continued to rally.
Down by ten points, 55-45, Newcomb hit a three pointer and was fouled. She hit her free throw, as well, to put the Mountaineers down seven points, 55-49. EOU continued to battle and trimmed the Warriors lead down to three points, 55-52, after a Moss three pointer. EOU again cut the lead down to two points, 57-55, after a three pointer by Newcomb.
That would be as close as the Mountaineers would get for the rest of the game, as the Warriors continued to extend its lead. After a three pointer by Newcomb, EOU found themselves down ten points, 69-59, with 3:55 to go in the game.
Eastern Oregon battled and cut the Warriors lead down to four points, 69-65, but the Warriors secured the win on the free throw line and defeated EOU, 73-65.
The Mountaineers return to action tomorrow night, when they travel to Eugene, Ore. to face Northwest Christian University. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
