Scouting the Opponents
Corban
The Warriors of Corban University enter the game against the Mountaineers with an 6-17 record and 2-12 in CCC action. The Warriors have lost 11 straight contests with its last loss coming Tuesday night to Concordia, 77-73, in overtime. The last win for Corban came on Dec. 28 when they defeated New Hope Christian College, 87-64. Corban is scoring 69.6 points per game while allowing 76.0 points per game. The Warriors are led by Jordan Carter, who is averaging 16.8 points per game.
Northwest Christian
Northwest Christian enters this weekend with a record of 14-10 and 8-6 in CCC play. The Becaons lost its last contest to Warner Pacific Tuesday night by a score of 66-61. Spencer Coleman leads the Beacons with 18.0 points per game. He also leads the team in rebounding as he averages 8.8 rebounds per game. On the season the Beacons are averaging 73.7 points per game, while shooting 46 percent from the floor. They are allowing its opponents to score 69.6 points per game and shoot 42.1 percent.
Earlier this Season
Earlier this season the Mountaineers faced both Corban and Northwest Christian at Quinn Coliseum. Eastern Oregon went 1-1 against them as they defeated Corban but lost to Northwest Christian. EOU survived a late second half run by Corban to secure a 74-65 victory over the Warriors. The Mountaineers looked s if they were pulling away in the second half as they went on a 9-2 run to take an 18 point lead, 55-37. However, the Warriors mouned a comeback and cut the lead down to four points, 68-64, but that would be as close as Corban would get for the remainder of the game. When the Mountaineers took on Northwest Christian, the Beacons controlled the game. EOU battled in the first half but found themselves down eight points, 38-30, at halftime. Northwest Christian extended its lead in the second half, as they took a commanding lead of 24 points, 70-46, late in the second half. EOU continued to battle and went on a 13-0 run to trim the Beacons lead to 11 points but it was not enough and EOU fell to Northwest Christian, 76-59.
CCC Tournament
With only four remaining games on the season for EOU, the Mountaineers are still looking to clinch the final spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament. So far seven of the eight spots have been clinched on the Men's Basketball side. The magic number for EOU to clinch the final spot is one game.
Last Weekend
The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team struggled shooting the three ball as they shot 3-for-20 from behind the arc, as No. 8 College of Idaho defeated EOU, 67-54, Friday evening. A trio of Mountaineers scored in double-figures led by Tony Eackles Jr., who scored 13 points.
Kalvin Johanson followed with 11 and
Derek Maloney rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10. With 3:17 left before halftime, the Mountaineers only scored six points the remainder of the half and College of Idaho took a nine point lead into halftime, 35-26. College of Idaho's grew their out lead to 21 points, 50-29, after a layup by Jordan O'Byrne. The Yotes continued to hold onto its 21 point lead until there was less three minutes to go in the second half. EOU went on a 10-2 run to trim the lead down to 9 points, 62-53, with just over a minute remaining in the contest. That would be as close as EOU would get for the game and would fall, 67-54.
Block Party
Eastern Oregon ranks third in the nation for blocks per game. The Mountaineer are averaging 4.7 blocks per game. The Mountaineers also rank fourth in total blocks on the season with 112. Leading the block party is
