Women's Basketball Weekly Notes: Evergreen and Northwest

This Weekend
This weekend the Mountaineers open up Cascade Collegiate Conference action against Evergreen and Northwest. Friday is Staff and Faculty Appreciation and Saturday is Ugly Sweater Christmas.
 
CCC Opener
This Friday, Dec. 5th is the opening weekend of CCC play. EOU will play host to Evergreen and Northwest. Both games start at 5:30 p.m.
 
Lady Yote Classic
The Mountaineers look to rebound after dropping two games at the Best Western Inn and Suites Lady Yotes Classic. The Mountaineers were defeated, 63-62, by Whitworth University after Jessica Kramer gave the Pirates a one point lead. Maloree Moss led the Mountaineers with 14 points. Larissa Quintana followed with 10 points. Kassy Larson grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Mountaineers.  The next day, EOU was defeated by Westminster (Utah), the No. 4 team in the NAIA Women's Basketball Division I, 58-39. The Mountaineers struggled shooting the ball as they shot 26 percent for the contest. Madeline Laan led the Mountaineers with nine points and 12 rebounds. Nikki Osborne followed with eight points.
 
Looking at the Opponents
Evergreen

The Geoducks come into the matchup with the Mountaineers with a perfect 4-0 record on the season. Evergreen's last game came on Nov. 25 when they defeated New Hope Christian, 79-58. LaNiecia Weatherspoon leads the team in scoring as she averages 18.9 points per game. As a team the Geoducks are averaging 83.8 points per game.
Northwest
The Eagles enter this weekend with a 5-2 record on the season. Northwest suffered their second loss of the season on Nov. 28 when they were defeated by NCAA Division II St. Martin's, 71-54. The Eagles are scoring 64.4 points per game. Chanara Greene leads the team in scoring as she averages 10.9 points per game. Greene also leads the team rebounding as she collects 9.6 rebounds per game.
 
Dishing Out Dimes
The Mountaineers rank third in the nation in assists per game. EOU is averaging (19.9) assists per game. Leading EOU in assists per game is Maloree Moss, as she averages 3.1 assists per game.
 
Rebounding
Eastern Oregon ranks fifth in the nation in rebounds per game, as they collected 49 rebounds per game. With collecting all the rebounds, EOU is outrebounding their opponents by 17.7 rebounds per game. This is the best in the NAIA. Kassy Larson leads the Mountaineers as she is collecting 9.1 rebounds per game.
 
What's Up Next
After this weekend the Mountaineers will head to Lewiston, Idaho for two games. eO uwill play Simpson University on Saturday, Dec. 13  and Lewis-Clark State on Sunday. Both games are scheduled for 2 p.m. starts.
