ASHLAND, Ore. – Maya Ah You came off the bench and scored 22 points for the Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team but it was not enough as they fell to the Raiders of Southern Oregon University on Friday Night.
Ah You was 9-of-13 from the field on the game.
Airashay Rogers followed with 16 points in the defeat. The loss snapped the Mountaineers (10-4, 2-1 CCC) four game winning streak. Ashley Claussen led the Raiders (11-1, 2-1 CCC) with 25 points, while Autumn Durand added 23 points.
The Mountaineers came out strong, early, and looked as if they were going to pull away from the Raiders. With EOU down, 4-3, the Mountaineers responded with a 7-0 run, putting the Mountaineers ahead, 10-4, after a three pointer by Ah You.
Southern Oregon responded and came back to tie the game, at 14-14, after a three-pointer by Brenna Anderson. After tying the game, the Raiders went on a 9-3 run to build a six point lead, 23-17, after a layup by Kristen Schoenherr.
The Raiders held a four point lead, 30-26, before the Mountaineers scored the next six points.
Kelsey Hill hit a three-pointer and
Larissa Quintana followed with a layup and hitting one of two free throws putting EOU on top, 32-30. Southern Oregon tied the game at 32-32, before EOU scored four straight points, 36-32. It looked as if EOU would go into halftime with a four point lead, but Autumn Durand hit a three pointer in the final minutes, trimming EOU's lead down to one, 36-35, at halftime.
Eastern Oregon came out and extended their lead to four points, 42-38, early in second half. The Raiders had an answer and retook the lead, 43-42, after an Anderson three pointer. After falling behind, EOU responded with a 9-2 run, giving EOU a 51-45 lead, after a
Maloree Moss layup.
The Mountaineers continued to extend their lead and with ten minutes and 30 seconds to go in the game, EOU led 64-55. Southern Oregon battled back to take the lead, 67-64, after going on a 12-0 run over the next three minutes of the contest.
The Raiders continued to extend their lead to five over EOU, 71-66, after a four point play by Claussen. EOU continued to slowly battle and trimmed the Southern Oregon lead down to one point, twice, late in the second half. However, EOU could not regain the lead and the Raiders extended their lead, again, to eight points and the Mountaineers fell, 90-82, to Southern Oregon.
Eastern Oregon returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 20 when they travel to Klamath Falls, Ore. to face Oregon Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
