Mountaineers Fall to Southern Oregon, 1-0
ASHLAND, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team fell to Southern Oregon University Raiders, 1-0, on Thursday afternoon.
The Raiders offense was off to a fast start against the Mountaineers. In the first ten minutes of the game, Southern Oregon had taken three shots, one shot went high and Jessica Parker recorded two saves to keep the game scoreless.
After Parker's second save, EOU's offense went on the attack. Sydney Nelson fired a shot on goal but the shot sailed high.
Three minutes after Nelson's shot, Southern Oregon scored the first goal of the match and Megan McArthur scored her first goal of the season. McArthur redirected a liner that was off to the left, beating Parker and putting EOU down, 1-0.
After the Raiders goal, EOU looked to respond as Shelby Tucker took a shot but it went wide and EOU still found themselves down one goal.
With seven minutes remaining in the first half, Lexi Olivo took a shot that went high and EOU trailed, 1-0, at halftime.
Southern Oregon kept the offensive pressure on the Mountaineers in the second half. Parker was up for the challenge as she recorded two saves, keeping the Mountaineers down by one, 1-0, with 30 minutes remaining in the game.
The Raiders continued trying to add a second goal of the game but Parker continued to turn SOU away.
Late in the second half, the Mountaineers looked to tie the game. Nelson fired a shot but the shot was blocked by a Southern Oregon defender. The ball carried out of play and EOU received a corner kick but could not get a shot on goal.
The Mountaineers would fall, 1-0, to Southern Oregon. Parker recorded six saves. EOU was outshot 15-4.
Eastern Oregon returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 11th when they play Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, Ore. Kickoff.
