Knights and Mountaineers Play to 2-2 Draw

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team and Warner Pacific College played to a 2-2 double overtime draw, Saturday afternoon at the EOU Soccer Complex.

The Mountaineers looked to break onto the scoreboard early in the first half. Haley Hill had a break away attempt and fired a shot on Allie Holtermann, who made the diving save to keep the game scoreless.

Three minute later the Mountaineers broke the scoreless tie as Sydney Nelson added her second goal of the season. Nelson took a pass from Katherine Hood and beat Holtermann, putting EOU ahead, 1-0.

The Mountaineers did not last long as Warner Pacific answered with the game tying goal 12 minutes later. Warner Pacific's Cristal Ruvalcaba scored her fourth goal of the season, beating Jessica Parker and tying the game at 1-1, which would be the score at halftime.

Nine minutes after halftime, the Knights took the lead, 2-1, over the Mountaineers. Staci Tatum took a free kick from 30 yards out and the ball sailed over Parker's outstretched hands.

EOU continued to battle and kept the pressure on the Knights as Hood fired a header on goal, but hit the crossbar. Eastern Oregon continued to keep pressure on Warner Pacific as Makensie Forsyth fired a shot and Holterman recorded the save. Holterman did not control the save and Kaeliana De Vera got the rebound and put it in the back of the net to tie the match at 2-2.

The Mountaineers and Knights continued to battle and after 90 minutes of play neither team could break the 2-2 tie and the match went into overtime.

Neither team had a good scoring chance in the first overtime period, forcing a second overtime. In the second 10 minute period the Mountaineers, Alexis Smith, fired a shot on goal but Holterman recorded the save. Charli Torres added another shot but could not beat Holterman. The Knights and Mountaineers played to a 2-2 draw.
