PORTLAND, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University compiled a hitting percentage of .323, while holding Warner Pacific College to a hitting percentage of -.041 on the night, as the Mountaineers swept the Knights, 25-7, 25-15, 25-18.
The sweep for Eastern Oregon is their seventh straight. EOU was led by senior,
Casey Loper, who recorded 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .619 for the night.
Emily Nay followed with 10 kills and a hitting percentage of .562.
Eastern Oregon wasted little time pulling away from the Knights in the opening set. EOU scored nine of the first ten points to take an early 9-1 lead. EOU did not let up and continued to use a strong swing as the team hit .481 in the set. The Mountaineers continued to pull away and after a Loper kill, EOU took set one, 25-7.
The Mountaineers looked to jump out early against the Knights in the second set but Warner Pacific had an answer. The Knights kept the second set close and with EOU ahead, 9-7, the Mountaineers began to pull away. After a Loper Kill, the Mountaineers lead grew to six, 17-11. EOU did not let the Knights get any closer in the set and a kill by Nay gave EOU the win 25-15.
Warner Pacific looked to be coming to life early in the third set. The Knights took advantage of the Mountaineers' mistakes and took a 5-0 lead to start the set. The lead for Warner Pacific continued to grow to as many as 7 points, 8-1. After the seven point lead, EOU came back to life and slowly started to mount their comeback.
EOU battled back to tie the set at 11, after a service error by the Knights' Cara Wonsley. After the Mountaineers tied the set, Warner Pacific took a three point lead, 14-11. EOU battled back and tied the set at 15-15. The Mountaineers took their first lead, after a bed set by Devan Belshe of Warner Pacific. After taking the lead, EOU did not look back and only allowed Warner Pacific three more points and won set three, 25-18.
The Mountaineers return to action tomorrow, Oct. 25, when they play at Concordia University. The match starts at 5 p.m.
