Mountaineers Fall to No. 1 Concordia, 2-0

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team was defeated, by No. 1 Concordia University Cavaliers, 2-0, on Thursday afternoon. The Cavaliers outshot the Mountaineers, 21-4, for the game.

Five and a half minutes into the contest, the Cavaliers looked as if they were going to score the first goal of the game. Ariel Kanable fired a shot that hit the crossbar. EOU recovered to keep the Cavaliers off the board.

The Mountaineers followed with a scoring chance of its own. Makensie Forsyth fired a shot on Nicole Franklin and she made the save to keep the game scoreless.

Concordia broke the scoreless tie in the 35th minute of the contest. Emily Ponce found Jasmin Ayala, who fired a shot past Jessica Parker, putting Concordia ahead, 1-0, which is the score at halftime.

The Cavaliers added to their lead 15 minutes into the second half. Ayala found Erin Huisingh for her fifth goal of the season. This extended the Cavaliers lead to, 2-0.
Eastern Oregon continued to pressure the Cavaliers defense. Late in the second half, Haley Hill fired a shot on goal but Franklin recorded the save to keep the Mountaineers off the board.

EOU continued to keep offensive pressure on the Cavaliers, as Kaeliana DeVera fired a shot, however, the Cavaliers blocked the shot. De Vera kept the trying to get EOU to break on the scoreboard as she fired another shot but the shot went wide and the Mountaineers fell, 2-0, to the No. 1 Concordia.

The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4th at 11 a.m. when they host Warner Pacific.
