Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team had four players score in double figures led by
Brittney Newcomb with 19 points en route to an 80-64 victory over Concordia University on Friday evening.
Newcomb, who scored 19 points, was 5-for-9 on three pointers in the contest. Following Newcomb for EOU was
Kassy Larson with 16 points, on 7-of-10 shooting from the field.
Nikki Osborne followed with 15 points and
Payton Parrish scored 12 in the victory.
The Mountaineers locked into a tight battle for the first few minutes of the contest. Newcomb led EOU early as she scored six of the first eight points of the game. Eastern Oregon continued to battle and after the first five minutes, EOU led 11-7 over Concordia.
However, the Cavaliers continued to battle and tied the game at 14-14, with12:08 to go in the first half. A minute later Concordia took the lead on a jumper by Lacey Nicholson. EOU tied the game at 16 after a pair of free throws by Larson. The game didn't stay tied for long as Concordia grew its lead to 22-16, with 7:30 left in the first half.
Eastern Oregon mounted a comeback and went on a 13-0 run that was capped by a three pointer by Parrish. Parrish's three pointer put EOU on top 29-22. The Cavaliers kept the game close and cut the EOU lead to one point, 31-30, with 11 seconds to go in the first half. However,
Nicole Redd answered Concordia's three with a three pointer of her own and put EOU ahead by four points, 34-30 at halftime.
The Mountaineers started to pull away early in the second half. EOU started the half off with on a 9-2 run to take a 43-32 lead over Concordia. Eastern Oregon continued to add to its lead and after a layup by Larson, EOU led by 11 points, 49-38.
EOU continued to add to its lead and with 8:53 left in the game the Mountaineers lead grew to 18 points, 60-42, after a Larson layup. EOU continued to add to its lead and after a Newcomb jumper; EOU took a 21 point lead, 65-44.
Eastern Oregon continued to hold onto a double-digit lead the remainder of the game and defeated the Cavaliers by a score of 80-64.
EOU extended its conference winning streak to 25 straight contests.
The Mountaineers return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 4 when they play at Warner Pacific. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
