Coaches vs. Cancer
This weekend at Quinn Coliseum is Coaches' vs. Cancer and Breast Cancer Awareness. The Mountaineers coaching staff will be wearing sneakers with their suits as they coach this weekend. The Mountaineers women's team will be wearing its pink uniforms and coaching staff will be wearing pink during its game.
Scouting the Opponents
Warner Pacific
The Knights of Warner Pacific come into the game against the Mountaineers with a 12-10 overall record and a 6-4 mark in conference action. Warner Pacific lost its last game played on Jan. 25 when Concordia defeated the Knights, 97-72. This will be the second matchup for the Knights against the Mountaineers. The first matchup came on Jan. 4 when the Knights defeated EOU, 72-57. Doug Thomas leads the way for Warner Pacific as he is scoring 16.2 points per game. On the season, Knights are averaging 78.2 points per game while allowing 73.9.
Concordia
The No. 21 Concordia Cavaliers with a record of 18-4 and 7-3 in CCC play. The Cavaliers are currently on a nine-game winning-streak that started on Dec. 30 with a victory over NCAA Division III opponent, Willamette. The last loss for Concordia came on Dec. 21, when Warner Pacific defeated the Cavaliers, 69-67. Concordia is averaging 94.5 points per game and shooting 52.6 percent from the floor for the season. Leading the Cavaliers offensive attack is Adam Herman, who is averaging 24.6 points per game. Concordia is first in the nation in total steals (246) and second in field goal percentage.
Last Weekend
Eastern Oregon suffered two losses last weekend. On Friday Jan. 24 the Mountaineers were defeated by Oregon Tech, 81-60. The Mountaineers struggled to shoot the ball against the Owls as EOU shot 39 percent for the game. The Owls offense came out clicking as they shot 51 percent for the game.
Tony Eackles Jr. led the Mountaineers with 23 points on 6-of-13 shooting.
Kyllian Wood finished with 17 points and eight rebounds on the night. The next night, EOU kept it close for the majority of the game against No. 9 Southern Oregon University on Saturday night but the Raiders were two strong late in the contest and defeated EOU, 80-65. Eackles led the way with 17 points.
Craig Tucker followed with 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting from behind the arc.
Leading the Offense
Senior Tony Eackles leads the Mountaineers in scoring on the season, as he averages 17.6 points per game. Eackles has led the Mountaineers in scoring in 13 games this season.
Blocks
Eastern Oregon continues to sit in second place in the nation with 100 block shots. The Mountaineers are currently sitting behind, Cascade Conference opponent, College of Idaho, who have recorded 111 blocks this season.
Kalvin Johanson leads the team with 46 blocks, which is third best in the NAIA.
Kyllian Wood is next on the team with 17 blocks on the season.
