For the second consecutive week the Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers came in at No. 14 in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll. EOU and Oregon Tech are the only schools in the Cascade Collegiate Conference that are in the top 25.
Scouting the Opponents
Oregon Tech
The Owls of Oregon Tech come in as the No. 19 team in the Coaches' Top 25 poll and come in after winning its last two contests. Oregon Tech is outscoring its opponents by 20.8 points on the season. The Owls are scoring 79.3 points per game and only allowing 58.5 points per game. Oregon Tech is led by Karly Leveque and Karissa Dixon who are scoring 12.4 and 12.3 points per game respectfully. On the season the Owls are a perfect 10-0 at home.
Southern Oregon
The Southern Oregon Raiders enter this weekend with a 16-5 overall record and 5-4 in CCC action. Southern Oregon dropped its last contest to Oregon Tech on Jan. 18. The Raiders are led by Kristen Schoenherr who is averaging 14.9 points per game to lead the high powered offense. As a team, Southern Oregon is scoring 87.2 points per game, which is the fifth most in the NAIA. The Raiders are 7-2 at home this season.
Start of the Second Half
This weekend is starts the second half of CCC Conference play. After half of the conference games half been complete, EOU has a three game lead over Oregon Tech, College of Idaho and Corban. The top eight teams advance to the Conference Tournament, which starts on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Last Weekend
On Friday night, EOU used a late second half push to extend its conference winning streak to 28 straight games with a 71-56 victory over Northwest Christian Universityon Friday evening at Quinn Coliseum. The Mountaineers were led by
Kelsey Hill who scored 14 points on 5-10 shooting.
Brittney Newcomb followed with 12 points for EOU. Chandler Gabrio scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Beacons. The Mountaineers continued the winning ways on Saturday as they used a 32-6 run to end the first half to take control of the game and defeat the visiting Corban University Warriors, 73-61 Saturday evening at Quinn Coliseum.
Nicole Redd led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting.
Earlier This Season
The Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers used a strong first half to defeat Southern Oregon University Raiders on Friday evening at Quinn Coliseum. The Mountaineers shot 67 percent from the floor in the first half to take a 21 point halftime lead.
Brittney Newcomb scored a game high 30 points on 11-of-20 from the floor. For the game the Mountaineers shot 52 percent. Kristen Schoenherr scored 15 points to lead the Raiders. EOU came away with an 102-78 victory over the Raiders. For the second straight night Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team defeated a ranked opponent. The Mountaineers were victorious over No. 14 Oregon Tech, 68-50, Saturday night at Quinn Coliseum.
Brittney Newcomb led the Mountaineers with a game-high 29 points.
Kassy Larson followed with 11 points for EOU. Ashleigh Vandenbrink led the Owls with 14 points. The Mountaineers shot 37.5 percent from the field while Eastern Oregon held Oregon Tech to 28 percent shooting for the game.
Conference Winning Streak
With the two victories last weekend, EOU has won 29 straight Cascade Collegiate Conference games dating back to the 2011-12 season. The last conference loss for Eastern Oregon came on Feb. 10, 2012 when College of Idaho defeated EOU, 44-40. The 29 game winning streak in conference play is the longest winning streak in conference history.
