Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team survived a late second half run by Corban University to secure a 74-65 victory on Saturday night at Quinn Coliseum.
Tony Eackles Jr. led the way for the Mountaineers with 17 points.
Kevin Attila followed with 13 points. Jordan Carter, for Corban, led all scorers with 22 points.
Eastern Oregon started off on fire as they only missed three shots in the first four and a half minutes of the contest. During the run, the Mountaineers pulled ahead by seven points, 13-6.
It looked as if Corban would mount a comeback as they cut the lead down to five points after Josiah Sebens hit a pair of free throws. However, Eastern Oregon extended its lead to double digits, 19-8, after a tip-in by
Kalvin Johanson.
The Warriors scored the next six points of the game to cut EOU's lead down to five points, 19-14. The Mountaineers again extended its lead to double figures as EOU went on a 19-9 run to go into halftime leading, 38-23.
Corban looked as if they would mount a comeback again in the second half as they cut the Mountaineers lead down to 11 points, 46-35, after a pair of free throws by Josiah Sebens. However, the Mountaineers answered with a 9-2 run, to take an 18 point lead, 55-37.
The Warriors would not go away and after a Sebens jumper, Corban found themselves down 12 points, 60-48. It looked as if the Mountaineers would start to pull away, as they led by 15 points, after a
Kevin Attila three pointer.
However, Corban continued to battle and cut the Eastern Oregon lead to single digits, 63-54, with four and half minutes to go in the game. The Warrior came within four points, 68-64, to the Mountaineers but could not get any closer as EOU secured the game at the free throw line making four free throws with under a minute to go in the game. Eastern Oregon came away with a 74-65 victory.
The Mountaineers return to action next Friday, Jan. 24 when they travel to Oregon Tech. Corban, also returns to action on Jan. 24 when they travel to Northwest. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
