CCC Opening Weekend
This weekend is the opening weekend of Cascade Collegiate Conference Action. The Mountaineers open up CCC play on Friday night with the Geoducks of The Evergreen State College at 5:30 p.m. The Mountaineers conclude its opening CCC weekend by traveling to Kirkland, Wash. to take on the Northwest University Eagles, Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Scouting the Opponents
Evergreen Geoducks
The Geoducks of The Evergreen State College come into the contest against EOU with a 4-2 record on the season. Evergreen dropped its first two games of the season and are currently on a four game winning streak. The Geoducks are led by Brittany Gray who is averaging 14.3 points per game and collecting 9.2 rebounds per game. Evergreen is scoring 63.8 points per game and shooting 40.1 percent from the field, while allowing their opponents to score 62.8 points per game and shoot 46.3 percent from the floor.
Northwest Eagles
The Eagles of Northwest University come into this weekend with a 5-3 record and having won its last contest on Nov. 29 against NCAA Division II Saint Martin's, 78-76. The Eagles are led by Sanda Milovic, who is averaging 15.3 points per game. Northwest is scoring 59.8 points per game but are giving up 60.1 points per game. The Eagles are holding opponents to shoot 32.9 percent from the floor, which is second best in the NAIA.
Last Time Out
The last time the Mountaineers took to the court was in the Best Western Caldwell Inn and Suites Lady Yote Classic. EOU went 1-1 in the classic as they defeated Walla Walla University, 96-34, on Nov. 29. The next day, the Mountaineers were defeated by the University of Puget Sound, 82-77. Against the Loggers, EOU found themselves down as many as 17 points but cut the lead down to two points, with two minutes to go. EOU could not come all the way back and were defeated by five pionts.
Brittney Newcomb led the Mountaineers with 26 points and
Madeline Laan followed with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting.
Top Five in the Nation
EOU ranks in the top five in the nation in a few different categories. The Mountaineers are fourth in the nation in scoring defense (56.6), and total three pointers made (91) and fifth in three pointers made per game (9.1).
Last time EOU Faced Evergreen and Northwest
The last time the Mountaineers took to the court against The Evergreen State College and Northwest University was last season on Jan. 25 and 26. Eastern Oregon came away with two road victorious over the Geoducks and Eagles. On Jan. 25, EOU defeated Northwest, 89-53. The next day the Mountaineers pulled out a five point, 50-45, victory over Evergreen.

So far this season the Mountaineers are averaging 16.9 offensive rebounds per game. That is the most offensive rebounds in the CCC. Southern Oregon is second as they pull down 16.4 offensive rebounds per game.

Brittney Newcomb leads the CCC in scoring per game as she is averaging 22.3 points per game. She leads the CCC in three pointers made on the season with 26 on the season and is averaging 3.7 made three pointers per game. Newcomb also ranks third in the conference in free throw percentage. She is shooting 88.9 percent from the charity strip this season as she has made 32-of-36 from the line.
