Eastern Oregon University women's basketball climbed back into the NAIA Women's Basketball Division II Coaches' Top 25, this week. The Mountaineers came in at No. 24 in the second regular season edition of the coaches' poll, after falling out of the top 25 in the first edition of the poll. The next Coaches' Top 25 will be announced Jan. 7.
Scouting the Opponents
Whitworth
The Pirates of Whitworth come into the Kim Evanger Raney Classic with a 3-2 overall record. Whitman played its last game on Dec. 3 when they were defeated by Lewis-Clark State College, 79-69. Whitworth averages 69.4 points per game and are led by KC McConell's 15.4 points per game. The Pirates are 1-0 in neutral site games.
Whitman
The Missionaries of Whitman come into the Kim Evanger Raney Classic with a 6-0 record and ranked No. 7 in the latest NCAA Division II USA Today Coaches' Top 25 poll. Whitman has not played since Dec. 1 when they defeated Concordia, 77-54. The Missionaries are averaging 76 points per game and are shooting 42.8 percent per game, while holding opponents to 5 points per game and to shoot 38.2 percent from the floor.

Brittney Newcomb has been named CCC Red Lion Women's Basketball Player of the week for her performance from Dec. 2-8. Newcomb, a senior from Medford, Ore., led the Mountaineers to a 92-76 victory over Evergreen. In the victory, Newcomb scored a season-high 32 points and tied a season-high making five three pointers. In the second half, she hit four consecutive three pointers and she shot 62.5 percent from the floor against Evergreen. Against Northwest, Newcomb scored 15 points and collected five rebounds. On the season, she ranked 3rd in the NAIA in three pointers made per game (3.8), fourth in points per game (22.6) and 8th in free throw percentage (89.6).
Last Weekend
Last Weekend the Mountaineers started the Cascade Collegiate Conference season, 2-0, as they defeated The Evergreen State College Geoducks and Northwest University Eagles this past weekend. The Mountaineers shot 60 percent from the floor en route to a 92-76 victory over Evergreen. Four players for EOU scored in double figures led by
Brittney Newcomb, who scored a game-high 32 points. Eastern Oregon's defense held the Geoducks to 31 percent shooting for the game. Against Northwest, the Mountaineers used a 22-2 run to start the second half to pull way for the Eagle. EOU came away with a 71-48 victory, for its second conference victory of the season. EOU was led by Newcomb's 15 points.
Taylor Riley collected eight assists in the game.
Shooting the Three Ball
Eastern Oregon ranks in the top six of the NAIA in two different three point categories. EOU ranks fourth in the Nation in made three pointers, having made 103 on the season. The Mountaineers also rank sixth in the NAIA in made three pointers per game, averaging 8.6 per game.
