Eugene, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team (16-2, 7-0 CCC) picked up another Cascade Collegiate Conference win on the road tonight against Northwest Christian University (10-7, 3-3 CCC), 70-49.
Senior
Brooke Randall led all scorers with 19 points and 7 assists.
Jorie Freeman finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds, while
Kelsea Hurliman and
Nicole Redd finished with 14 and 8 points respectively.
Northwest was led by Kelsey Atkins who finished with 15 points shooting 6-of-8 from the field. Lindsey Shearer and Aly Bruns finished with 10 and 8 points respectively.
In the first half the two teams would exchange baskets as there was one tie and eight lead changes. Northwest Christian led by 4 midway through the half before Eastern come back to gain a 7 point lead with 2:40 left to play. Four late free throws and a NCU jumper cut the Mountaineer lead to just 2 sending EOU into the locker room up, 31-29 at the half.
In and evenly matched first half the Mountaineers finish shooting 39% (11-of-28) from the field and 30% (3-of-10) from behind the arc, the Beacons shot 35% (10-of-28) from the field and 42% (3-of-7) from behind the three point line.
Eastern came out in the second half and held their lead as Northwest Christian came as close as 2. Back to back threes by Huliman and Randall with 7:58 left to play gave the Mountaineers an 8 point lead and the momentum to finish out the second half holding the Beacons scoreless for the last 5 minutes.
EOU finished the game shooting 44% (23-of-52) from the field and 31% (6-of-19) from the three point line. NCU shot 37% (19-of-51) from the field in the second half and 33% (3-of-9) from the three point line.
Eastern out scored Northwest Christian 39-19 in the second half and out rebound them 36-26.
