LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team won its fourth consecutive game Saturday with a 77-63 win over Concordia University.
The Mountaineers (18-9, 11-7 Cascade Collegiate Conference) currently have the longest win streak in the conference. EOU also won its ninth straight game over Concordia, dating back to a 67-63 Cavaliers' win on Jan. 19, 2008. CU has not won in La Grande since 2006, losing seven consecutive times in Quinn Coliseum.
Seniors
Jamar Johnson and
Travares Peterson led EOU on Senior Night with 17 and 12 points.
Trent Roos added 11 points, and
Anthony Brown had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Cody Thurmond threw six assists.
Eastern Oregon jumped out to an early lead over Concordia (14-15, 6-12), going up 18-5 while making four of their first five three-point attempts. Then, after the Cavs cut the lead back down to seven points, EOU closed the half on a 22-7 run to go up 44-22 at the break.
The Mountaineers held Concordia to 28 percent from the field in the first half, and 0-for-7 from beyond the three-point line. EOU outshot the Cavaliers .382-to-.366 in the second period as the Mountaineers never let the lead slip back under 10 points.
Concordia did its best to comeback, though, going on a 12-4 run in the middle of the period to cut the lead to 14 at 62-48 with 9:04 left. However, EOU again pushed the lead back up to 20 points soon after before the Cavs ended the game on an 8-1 run. In the end, EOU outshot the Cavaliers .420-to-.329 and outrebounded the CU, 53-49.
The Cavaliers' Kevan West led all scorers with 18 points, posting a double-double with a team-high 11 rebounds, seven offensive. In addition, Jourdan Sweeney and Gage Aker also both scored 12 points in the game, while Aker contributed three steals.
The Mountaineers have qualified for the Cascade Conference tournament and will host Corban (18-12, 10-8) in the first round Wednesday at 7 p.m. EOU is seeded fourth in the conference tournament, while Corban is fifth. The teams split the regular season meetings, with the home team winning each time. Concordia travels as the seventh seed to Northwest University (25-3, 15-3) Wednesday.
