PORTLAND, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team knocked off its ninth straight opponent Saturday, at Warner Pacific College, 3-0.
The Mountaineers (9-6, 8-0 Cascade Collegiate Conference) have matched the program's longest win streak since 2000. EOU beat the Knights for the 10th consecutive times.
One night after a victory over Concordia, the Mountaineers moved to 9-6 overall and 8-0 in CCC play with a 25-10, 25-12, 25-13 win over the host Knights. WP falls to 1-7 and 0-7.
EOU sprinted out to a 12-1 lead in set one as Warner Pacific was unable to get much going offensively. The Knights avoided hitting errors, but the EOU defense amassed 20 digs in the frame while
Rebecca Haight put away four kills for the Mountaineers.
The Knights started set two much better, staying close early and tying the game at 5-5 after a Kaylin Elms kill. Later, a Kristina Naff spike drew within 10-8 but Eastern Oregon closed out the set on a 15-4 run to win going away. Haight had five more kills without an error and the Mountaineers hit for a .522 percentage in the frame.
Set three was competitive early on as the teams traded leads four times. With the score tied at 10-10, EOU went on a 8-1 burst and scored 15 of the next 18 points to secure the sweep.
Warner Pacific finished with 16 total kills and a .012 hitting percentage, while EOU was very efficient with 43 kills and a percentage of .378. The Knights did manage to jump for five total blocks compared to four for EOU.
Jacalyn Chew-Dorsey led Warner Pacific with four kills, while Brie Schau added three. Kelsey Kurtz had 13 assists and seven digs.
Rebecca Haight swung for 11 kills versus just one error for Eastern Oregon, while
Kaitlyn Duncan had a match high 10 digs.
The victory sets up a battle in La Grande Friday night between the top two teams in the conference. Eastern and No. 8 The College of Idaho (11-1, 8-0) are each undefeated in conference play and will play for the top spot in the CCC through the first half of the conference schedule.
