LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 14 Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team picked up its 20th victory of the season Friday, 88-83, over Corban University.
The Mountaineers (20-5) (11-4) won their fourth straight game after leading for only 8:38 of the game. EOU trailed Corban for much of a game that featured eight lead changes and nine ties. Eastern matched its largest deficit overcome for a victory in the Isaac Williams' era at EOU.
The Warriors spread a 6-6 tie early in the game to 17-6 after an 11-0 run over a four-minute span. Eastern responded with a 13-3 run of its own to cut the lead to 20-19 with 11:06 remaining in the first half. Two minutes later, Corban had an eight point lead again after Jonathan Ramirez free-throw.

Travares Peterson gave EOU a lead with 4:07 left in the first half.
Josh Cottle would later increase the lead with a three-pointer to three points. The Warriors would regain the lead and take a 47-44 lead into halftime.
The Warriors opened the second half by stretching their lead to seven points three times; it was the largest margin in favor of Corban for the rest of the game. After Jordan Carter put the Warriors up 60-53 with 13:56 left in regulation, EOU slowly cut into the lead, eventually tying the game at 68 after a Peterson free-throw.
A Jake Mauermann three-pointer gave Corban a 75-70 advantage with 7:54 left in the game; it would be the last basket for the Warriors while they were ahead. EOU would regain the lead and seize control from there, spreading the margin to seven points with 40 seconds to play.
Thomas McCarthy finished with a team-high 15 points leading the Mountaineers. The senior shot 4 of 10 from behind the arc and is now six three-pointers shy of breaking the school single-season record for three-pointers made at 89.

Anthony Brown, and Peterson all contributed 13 points. Brown finished with a double-double adding 10 rebounds as well.
Cody Thurmond threw a game-high six assists.
Eastern finished shooting 44 percent from the field and 12 of 32 from three-point range. EOU was just 16 of 27 from the free-throw line. Friday marked the first time this season the Mountaineers won a game, despite being outrebounded. Corban had a 44 to 42 rebounding advantage over Eastern Oregon.
The Warriors (15-13) (5-11) were led by Erik Cronrath's game-high 22 points on 8 for 10 shooting from the field. Mauermann added 20 points, Carter had 13 and Jacob Kopra chipped in 12. Carter added 10 rebounds and Ian Logan dished out four assists. Corban finished 42 percent from the field and 8 of 28 from behind the perimeter.
The Mountaineers welcome Northwest Christian University to La Grande Saturday for Senior Night. EOU will be looking for the season sweep over NCU (8-20) (2-14) after defeating the Beacons in Eugene on Jan. 14, 67-63. Eastern is 6-0 all-time versus Northwest Christian in La Grande. NCU fell at The College of Idaho Friday, 73-56.
