OLYMPIA, Wash. – The No. 9 Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team cruised to an 82-51 victory at The Evergreen State College Thursday.
The Mountaineers (11-3, 4-1 Cascade Collegiate Conference) forced 32 turnovers, 21 in the first half. EOU had 11 steals at halftime and finished with 14. Eastern defeated Evergreen for the seventh straight time, and 26th time out of the 28 all-time meetings.
Eastern was led by
Korrie Bourn's 13 points. The junior was 6-of-9 from the field. She added four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Kyle Miller chipped in 12 points.
After the lead exchanged four times in the first eight minutes of play, TESC had a 13-12 advantage. The Mountaineers then went on a 9-0 run, which was stretched to 21-2. Eastern's largest lead of the half was 43-20 with 19 seconds left. EOU had a 43-23 lead at halftime.
The Mountaineers turned 21 Evergreen first half turnovers into a 25-5 points off of turnovers advantage. Eastern Oregon's bench also outscored the Geoducks' bench, 23-0.
Evergreen opened the second by closing within 17 points twice, but it would be as close it would get. EOU led 52-35 with 13:31 remaining in regulation, but then went on a 16-3 run to pull away. The Mountaineers largest lead came with 5:01 left in the game, 75-42.
Danielle Swain led the Geoucks (3-10, 1-3) with a game-high 19 points. The sophomore was 7-of-10 from the field, including 4-for-5 from behind the arc. She added eight rebounds.
Eastern Oregon was 50 percent from the field in the game, 10-of-19 from behind the arc, and 6-for-11 from the free-throw line. TESC was 42 percent from the field, 6-of-15 from three-point range, and 11-for-20 from the free-throw line.
The Mountaineers outrebounded Evergreen, 34-32. Eastern had 32 to 18 points in the paint, 40 to 16 points off of turnovers, and 43 to 5 bench point advantages.
Eastern Oregon stays on the road and plays at Northwest University (6-6, 2-2) Friday. The Mountaineers have won six of their last seven games in the NU Pavilion. The Eagles fell to The College of Idaho Thursday, 54-48, despite a 28-point and 23-rebound performance by Jessalyn Jackson.
