Pioneers Hand EOU Loss on the Road

PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 10 Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team lost its second straight game Saturday at Lewis and Clark College, 82-69.

Travares Peterson led the Mountaineers (6-2) with 21 points and 12 rebounds. The senior was 8 for 16 from the field. Cody Thurmond added 14 points and Trent Roos had 12 points. Ervin Felder finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Lewis and Clark (3-1) handed EOU back-to-back losses for the first time under Isaac Williams. It was the first time Eastern lost two games in a row since Jan. 6, 2009.

The game went back-and-forth through the first 15 minutes. The Mountaineers had their last lead at the 5:28 mark of the first half after a pair of Roos free throws gave EOU a 21-20 advantage. The Pioneers responded with a 14-2 run and led at halftime, 36-27.

Eastern Oregon closed within four points, 40-36, four minutes into the second half, but L&C answered with a 9-1 run. The Pioneers stretched the lead to 16 in the final minute.

Marcus Wells scored 21 points to lead Lewis and Clark. PJ Taylor added 19 points and Ross Erickson had 16 points. Erickson added a team-high eight rebounds. Taylor threw five assists.

Eastern committed 18 turnovers, compared to the Pioneers' eight. Lewis and Clark shot 42 percent from the field, while EOU was 37 percent. L&C held the Mountaineers to 3 of 20 from behind the arc, and it was 11 for 28. Eastern Oregon outrebounded the Pioneers, 48-34.
