EOU Begins Conference Play With Win

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team swept Corban University, 3-0, to begin Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

The Mountaineers (4-2) (1-0) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first game, and coasted to a 25-15 victory. EOU led by 10 four times in the opening set. Eastern had 10 kills and a hitting percentage of .231 in Game 1.

Corban (1-1) (0-1) battled back in the second game taking the lead late in the set, 21-19. In a game that was close for its entirety, the Mountaineers separated late but were tied with the Warriors eight times. After a 23-23 tie, Eastern received their final two points on a service error and attack error.

An EOU service error gave Corban a 7-4 lead early in Game 3. The Mountaineers responded with a 19-7 run to take a 23-14 comfortable lead. A Jessica Lea kill won the match for Eastern Oregon at 25-16. It was one of 11 Eastern kills in the set compared to the Warriors' six.

Lea led the Mountaineers with 11 kills, 11 assists, and four digs. Irene Walters and Taylor Stewart each had eight kills for Eastern. Walters added 11 digs. Kaitlyn Duncan finished with 10 digs.

Tiffany Land had a team-high seven kills for Corban, Jenny Harman and Chandra Baskoro each had six. Baskoro ended the night with a team-high 10 digs. Karisa Calderon had 10 assists for the Warriors.

Eastern Oregon hosts Northwest Christian Saturday night at 7 in Quinn Coliseum, and Corban heads to The College of Idaho for a 7 p.m. MT start. The Mountaineers and Beacons matchup will be video streamed live on EOUSports.com. College of Idaho defeated NCU, 3-0, Friday night in Caldwell, Idaho.
