EOU Women Finish Regular Season With Win

Mountaineers honor four seniors with win on Senior Night with victory

LA GRANDE, Ore. -- The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team knocked off The Evergreen State College, 60-44, to end the 2009-10 regular season Saturday.

The Mountaineers (18-10, 12-6) were led by Tana Stickney's 18 points. The senior finished 7 for 12 from the field. Shaylee Nielsen added 14 points for EOU. The junior was 4 for 5 from behind the perimeter. Nielsen recorded her first double-double with the Mountaineers grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Geoducks, who are now 0-13 all-time in Quinn Coliseum, were led by four players that each scored six points. Eastern held TESC to just 28 percent shooting from the field. Evergreen was 1-16 (6.3 percent) from behind the arc.

Eastern Oregon finished 38 percent from the field, and 28 percent for three-pointers. Salena Leavitt finished with a game-high five assists. EOU has now won 23 of the 25 all-time meetings with Evergreen State.

The Mountaineers will be the four-seed in the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament which will begin Tuesday. Eastern hosts Oregon Tech (15-15) (8-10) in Quinn Coliseum. It marks the seventh consecutive season EOU has hosted a postseason game. OIT and Eastern Oregon split in their regular season matches, with the home team winning each game. The quarterfinal contest tips off at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
