EOU Clinches Home Playoff Game with Win

Stickney leads Eastern Oregon to another home playoff game

EUGENE, Ore. -- The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team clinched it's seventh consecutive home playoff game with a 60-51 victory at Northwest Christian University Saturday.

The Mountaineers (17-9) (11-5) were led by Tana Stickney's 19 points and six rebounds. The senior was 8 for 13 from the field off of the bench. Kyle Miller added 11 points. The sophomore scored in double figures for the 18th time in her short collegiate career. Miller added a game-high four assists.

Northwest Christian jumped out to a seven-point lead five minutes into the game. But,  EOU responded with a run and led 32-22 at halftime. Eastern's largest lead was 15 points with 2:14 left in regulation.

The Beacons (8-18) (2-15) fell for the eighth consecutive time. NCU was led by Katie Monteith's 14 points. Calie McVicker went 5 for 7 and added 11 points.

Eastern held the Beacons to 36 percent shooting from the field, and shot 43 percent themselves. The Mountaineers outscored Northwest Christian in the paint, 34-14, and off of the bench, 36-15. Both teams committed 14 turnovers.

Northwest Christian closes the season Friday against Corban College in Eugene at 5:30 p.m. The Warriors upset No. 16 College of Idaho Saturday. Eastern Oregon hosts Northwest University Friday. The Eagles (15-9) (11-5) fell at home to Warner Pacific Saturday, 71-63. Northwest held off EOU in overtime on Dec. 5, 2009, earlier this season.

Friday will be "Wear Pink, Get Aware" in Quinn Coliseum. The Pink Zone returns and fans are encouraged to wear pink. The first 100 students receive a free "Wear Pink, Get Aware" T-Shirt. The game tips off at 5:30 p.m.
