The Mountaineers pick up solid victory in Salem over Corban

SALEM, Ore. -- The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team pulled off a 80-71 road win at Corban College.

The Mountaineers were powered by three double digit scorers. Samantha Flett and Tana Stickney each finished with 17 points, while Kyle Miller added 16 points. Flett was 5 for 6 from the field, including 4 for 4 from behind the perimeter. Stickney was 7 for 10 from the field, and Miller was 5 for 8 with five assists.

Corban was led by Tess Bennett's game-high 22 points and eight rebounds. The Warriors had three other scorers in double figures on their third annual Pink Zone night. Katie Steigleman had 15 points, Becky Buhler added 13, and Jenessa Miller chipped in 11.

Eastern Oregon spread a 37-34 halftime lead to 15 points with 6:59 remaining in regulation. Corban led by eight points four and a half minutes into the game. Both teams came out shooting very well. EOU was 54 percent from the field in the first half, and the Warriors were 53 percent.

The Mountaineers finished shooting a season-best 57 percent from the field. Corban was 46 percent for the contest. Eastern shot 11 for 21 from behind the perimeter, and the Warriors were 44 percent (8 for 18). EOU outrebounded Corban, 28-27.

Eastern travels to Eugene Saturday to play at Northwest Christian University at 5:30 p.m. The Beacons fell to No. 16 The College of Idaho Friday, 76-67. EOU defeated NCU on Jan. 15 in La Grande, 80-47. The Mountaineers hit a record 15 three-pointers in the victory.
