Eastern Oregon Returns to Nampa

Eastern Oregon track and field head back to Nampa for second meet

The Eastern Oregon University track and field team heads back to Nampa, Idaho today for its second meet of the 2010 indoor season.

The Mountaineers will participate in the Boise State Team Invitational Friday and Saturday. It marks the fifth and final meet hosted by the Broncos this indoor season. It will be the second time EOU has run in the Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center this season.

The meet begins at 3:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon and 9 a.m. on Saturday morning and will include teams such as UCLA, Cal State Northridge, Utah State, Utah Valley, Eastern Oregon, College of Idaho, Northwest Nazarene and the UNLV women's team.

The meet mirrors last week's United Heritage Invitational's two-day format, which spread over Friday and Saturday at the Jacksons Indoor Track. The difference between the meets is the Boise State Team Invitational will include a heptathlon/pentathlon competition spanning over the two days.

Friday's start time is at 3:30 p.m. with the women's pentathlon 60-meter hurdle competition. The remainder of the women's pentathlon as well as four men's heptathlon events will round out the first day of competition. The final event, the women's pentathlon 800-meter run, is scheduled for an 8:10 p.m. start.

On Saturday, the competition begins at 9 a.m. with the women's weight throw as well as the men's heptathlon 60-meter hurdles on the track. The day will conclude with the men's 4x400-meter relay, slated for a 2:25 p.m. start.

Eastern had a great start to the 2010 season on Jan. 30 at the BSU Bronco Invitational. Seven athletes qualified for the indoor national championship meet. To qualify for the NAIA National meet in the Combined Events (women's Pentathlon on Friday, Men's Heptathlon on Friday and Saturday), an athlete
needs to end the indoor season ranked among the top 16 entries into the meet.

Kimmie Moore is aiming to qualify for Nationals again in the Pentathlon (60 hurdles, shot, High Jump, Long Jump and 800). Last year she competed at Nationals and finished ninth. McKinzie Anderson and Jessianne Heley also hope to make a run at qualifying.

On the Men's side, Dustin Cloud will make his debut in the combined events and Asa Miller is back for his second season. If things go well, one or both of them have a shot at snagging a top 16 mark.

On Saturday, EOU hopes to add to the National list in several areas. Including the 400, 800, throws and perhaps a jumping event.
