LA GRANDE, Ore. -- The latest edition of the game notes for Eastern Oregon University women's basketball is available now. The Mountaineers welcome Concordia and Warner Pacific this week.

THE SERIES
* The Mountaineers hold a 39-18 advantage over Concordia all-time.
* Eastern has won eight of the 11 meetings in La Grande over the Cavaliers since 2000.
* Eastern Oregon won 16 straight over Concordia from 1991 to 1999, and from 2003 to 2007, EOU won 10 consecutive meetings.
* The Mountaineers swept the season series last year with wins in Portland and La Grande.
* EOU has not beat Warner Pacific in La Grande since 2008. The Knights have won two straight in Quinn Coliseum by 14 and 17 point margins.
* Eastern Oregon has won 27 of the 38 meetings all-time versus Warner Pacific.
* The Mountaineers have won 10 out the 13 meetings in Quinn Coliseum since 2000.
* Eastern won 11 straight games versus WPC from 2000 to 2004. WPC won four consecutive games over EOU from 1987 to 1989.

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS
Concordia is led by Danielle Clauson who leads the CCC in scoring per game averaging 22.1 points per outing. She also leads the league in field goal percentage at 60 percent. The Cavaliers began the season 0-3, but reeled off 11 straight wins, before falling Tuesday night to Lewis-Clark State College. CU was picked sixth in the preseason poll but sits atop the league standings at the moment is ranked No. 15 in the country. The Cavs are third in the nation is total scoring with 1,163 points.

ABOUT THE KNIGHTS

Warner Pacific is led by Kelsey Mattsen's 15.3 points per game. She adds 6.80 rebounds per game which also leads the team. Cameryn Calhoun tops the conference in assists per game throwing 5.16 per game which is eighth in NAIA Div. 2. She has thrown 62 assists this season. As a team the Knights throw 15.8 assists per game which is 22nd in the country. WPC has held opponents to 60 points per game so far this year. Miranda Holenstein is one of the best shooters in the Cascade Conference shooting 85 percent from the free throw line and 50 percent from the field.

LAST TIME OUT
The Mountaineers used a barrage of three-pointers to beat Oregon Tech on Dec. 18 in Klamath Falls, 85-68. Shaylee Nielsen led all scorers with a career-high 22 points. The senior was 7 for 12 from the field, including 7 of 11 from behind the arc. Kyle Miller and Vintea Georges added 17 and 13 points for Eastern. Miller and Rosebud Guthrie grabbed six rebounds, and Miller threw six assists. The Mountaineers matched a season-high 26 assists in the win. EOU entered the game sixth in the nation in assists per game with an average of 18.3 per game. Tech finished with 15. The night before Eastern fell at Southern Oregon, 69-53. The Mountaineers had their seven game win streak snapped. Miller led EOU with 16 points.

NEW START TIMES FOR 2010-11
A new doubleheader format featuring men's and women's teams alternating time slots in conference play headlines the release of the 2010-11 Cascade Collegiate Conference men's and women's basketball schedules, CCC commissioner Dave Haglund announced. The first half concludes Jan. 15; the second half runs from Jan. 21 to Feb. 19. The CCC recently voted to modify the structure of its conference doubleheaders, which historically have featured the women playing at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30 p.m. Beginning with the upcoming campaign, genders will split the two time slots. In the first half of conference play in 2010-11, men will play at 5:30 p.m. and women at 7:30 p.m.; in the second half, the genders will flip time slots. Men's and women's teams will flip their playing orders on a yearly basis.

LONG DISTANCE SPECIALISTS

The Mountaineers are top in the nation in three-point percentage shooting 44 percent from behind the perimeter. EOU is second in NAIA Div. 2 holding opponents to 22 percent shooting from behind the arc. Eastern has won its games by an average of 21 points. Eastern Oregon is averaging 10 three-pointers per game, which is fourth in NAIA Div. 2. Shaylee Nielsen and Kelsea Hurliman are 7th and 10th in the country in three-point field goal percentage. Nicole Redd is 11th in the same stat category.

UNSELFISH MOUNTIES

Eastern is sixth in NAIA Div. 2 averaging 17.9 assists per game. The Mountaineers have dished out 233 assists this year. EOU has a turnover margin of +2.8 and is seventh in the country in assist to turnover ratio. Kyle Miller is 12th in the country in assist to turnover margin.

DEADLY DEFENSE

Eastern has stymied its opponents in 2010-11. No opponent has shot over 50 percent from the field in a game versus the Mountaineers this season. It's No. 2 NAIA Div. 2 defense from behind the perimeter highlights the EOU defensive honors. Eastern is first in the conference in points allowed per game (54.46), three-point field goal percentage (.228), and is second in defensive rebounds (29.69) and field goal percentage defense (.439).

BACK IN NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT

The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team returns to the NAIA Div. 2 Top 25 at No. 24. EOU was last in the poll at No. 24 on Feb. 27, 2008. The Mountaineers received 100 votes in Monday's poll. EOU was one spot out of the Top 25 with 78 points last week. Eastern was one spot from cracking the top 25 poll last season on Jan. 11, 2010. It was the highest they appeared in the poll. Concordia was the only other Cascade Collegiate Conference team in the poll at No. 15.
