NAMPA, Idaho – The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team fell in a non-counting contest at Northwest Nazarene University Saturday, 80-65.
The Mountaineers (9-1) (2-0) shot 51 percent from the field against NCAA Div. 2 Northwest Nazarene. Eastern was 8 of 16 from behind the perimeter as well. EOU finished 9 for 13 from the free throw line.
The Crusaders controlled the tempo of the game and led through most of the game. Northwest Nazarene led 43-33 at halftime. The contest counted as a regular season game for NNU.
Kyle Miller scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Mountaineers. The junior was 7 for 12 from the field and added a game-high six assists.
Shaylee Nielsen finished with 15 points and
Kelsea Hurliman scored 13. Nielsen had a team-high six rebounds.
EOU outrebounded Northwest Nazarene, 33-27. The Mountaineers did commit 23 turnovers compared to NNU's 13. The Crusaders finished with 21 assists, while Eastern had 13.
Beth Johnson scored 16 points to lead NNU (4-3). Northwest Nazarene shot 48 percent from the field and 47 percent from three-point range. Monica Garcia added 15 points for the Crusaders. Chelsie Luke and Heather Adams each finished with 11 points.
Eastern Oregon returns to La Grande to host Linfield College in a regular season non-conference matchup Sunday at 1 p.m. in Quinn Coliseum. There will be live video and stats on EOUSports.com.
