Warriors Steal Victory From Eastern

SALEM, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team fell at Corban University in four games Saturday night.

Corban's Chandra Baskoro registered a match-high 17 kills and 18 digs, and helped the Warriors improve to 8-7 overall and 6-7 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Eastern Oregon falls to 11-8 overall and 7-6 in league matches.

Along with Baskoro, Tiffany Land and Bailey Wold added 12 kills each to go along with Megan Dees' 28-assist, 10-dig performance. Bethany Durre and Heather Anderson helped anchor a Corban defense that recorded 72 digs, as the aforementioned duo chipped in with 15 and 13 digs respectively.

Eastern Oregon was led by Jessica Lea, who registered a triple-double with a team-high tying 12 kills, a team-best 25 assists, and 12 digs. Lea was aided offensively by Taylor Stewart with 12 kills and Irene Walters with 10 kills, while Emily Sampson handed out 18 assists to go along with Kaitlyn Duncan's team-high 17 digs defensively.

In the opening set, Eastern Oregon would quickly grab a four-point lead (4-0) out of the gate that the visiting Mountaineers would never relinquish. Corban would pull within three points (18-15) following a Baskoro kill only to watch as EOU closed out the set on a 7-3 run for an early lead.

The second set was a see-saw battle until the score was knotted at 22-22. Corban would tie the match at a set apiece thanks to a set-closing 3-0 run that included kills by Baskoro and Land along with a set-ending combo block from Land and Braun for a three-point win (25-22).

The third set was another back-and-forth battle until things were knotted at 15-all. Corban would use a 3-0 run that included a pair of kills by sophomore Karisa Calderon and one from Baskoro to take control. Eastern Oregon would get within a single point (19-18) following a service ace before the host Warriors closed out the set on a 6-3 run that was capped with back-to-back kills by Wold en route to Corban taking a 2-1 lead in sets.

The fourth and final set was controlled by Corban, as the Warriors built an eight-point lead (20-12) following an Eastern Oregon attack error. The visiting Mountaineers would get to within four points (22-18) before Corban regained control thanks to a Wold kill before closing out the set thanks to an EOU hitting error and a Mountaineer bad set for the four-set win (25-18).

The Mountaineers next contest is in La Grande on Friday against Northwest University at 7 p.m. Eastern fell in five sets at NU on Oct. 2.
